You can win an argument and still be wrong. My Grandpa does it all of the time =). This blog is about conversation...right? Just hoping for FREEDOM for all...

Re: Confessing Assumptions About Sexual Identity :: Moving Away From Drawing Lines to Starting Dialogue

ha ha...um, sorry. When I write it tends to come across a little harsher than expected. =) Forgive me for getting off on a tangent (not sticking to the issue you were hoping to discuss). I apologize sincerely. Its just that in every person I meet I tend to always look for courage in what they write/speak more than in what is actually said...

I should have thought through exactly what I wanted to communicate and why I dont feel this is super courageous -- mine was a bad blog comment. Youre obviously not a coward and Im not trying to malign your character. I guess it just felt to me that it would be more courageous to have this kind of a conversation face-to-face in a setting that is beyond your control, maybe one saturated with conservative evangelicals? I guess thats what I hoped I would come across. In that setting it would have been harder to share what youre sharing -- not that that would necessarily accomplish the purpose of your blog, it would just be more courageous...

Forgive the impulsiveness of this fully-redeemed sinner! May GOD see His purposes accomplished as you continue to share your experiences on this issue, bhaya...

And thanks for sharing on how your last comments got you into trouble with the 'religious-right'. Thats encouraging to hear =)...

Re: Confessing Assumptions About Sexual Identity :: Moving Away From Drawing Lines to Starting Dialogue

Chris, thanks for posting this.

Jesus is no respecter of persons, but I respect your desire to be courageous. I only, humbly, ask one thing. At the moment it feels like (from the comments at least) youre preaching to the choir. I'm not trying to blow my own horn but I feel that courage is something different than what I see here. When I first returned from working in South Asia I lost about 85% of my supporters because of my unconventional, yet Biblical views. There was no choir to cheer me on...but I kept fighting forward in Love, true to my ideals, and God provided.

I ask that you help us see the result of your courage (true courage always costs). I DON'T doubt that its there, but from one 8 to another, it just doesn't feel like you're swimming upstream at the moment. Then again, I may be wrong, only God knows what this will cost you...
