I think it would be pretty easy to argue that FB took off because of the photos, not the other way around. It is definitely the most popular photo sharing site on the Web.

I don't mind paying for advertising, I do it every day. But they need to be effective and the way FB currently implements them they hardly ever show up to the people that are supposed to see them.

I honestly don't see how this is any different than Facebook, which was built on the backs of its users providing it with free content, now charging Businesses exhorbitant amounts of money for that content to be showed to anyone. Sure, it's their platform and they can do what they want, but it still feels exactly the same. I understand that what the Wedding Chicks are doing is against FB's and Pinterest's TOS, but that's the only thing that makes it any different.

I use flags always, and stars occasionally. You forgot to talk about colors! I use them to designate different types of uses for the images.

Thanks for the note about the catalog upgrade. Now the "Preparing new searchable data" description in the upgrade dialog makes sense. My catalog is massive (over 4 GB) and a significant portion of the files are on a NAS drive. It has been doing the upgrade for over 10 hours so far and it appears to be only about 60% done. It is still moving, but very slowly. Hopefully by morning it will be done.

It may be technically true that there are more d/t spots available but the reality is that car2go cars are now using up far more spots than have been created. There are far fewer "available" on street parking spots now than there were a year ago because people are using these cars as their own personal transit system. There should be a limit to the number of car2go cars that are allowed to park in any block....

Thansk for getting back to me. I hope you will do more than just iTunes. More than half of the mobile world is using Android which makes iTunes useless to us. We just need a simple RSS feed for the podcast enclosures (ie. the mp3 file). Feedburner is the best way to do this. It will even help you create the iTunes feed...

I think it's similar to the photography market... I can't be afraid that Sears and Wal-Mart charge $9.99 for a portrait session with a boatload of products included while I am asking my clients for $200 for the session and a whole lot more for the products after that. I have a different target market and I build my brand around that market.

I fully believe that a writer can do the same... If you have a great product then you can build a strong brand, cultivate a great audience, and the sales will come.

You should try the latest version of TPG LR Backup. It saves all your Lightroom settings and creates compressed copied of your LR catalog, automatically on a frequency you choose. It has saved my bacon a few times...

This is a great post Jim. I also had know idea that Mobius arch was so small. It makes it all that much more impressive that you have multiple great images of it.
