<rss xmlns:atom="http://www.w3.org/2005/Atom" version="2.0"><channel><title>Disqus - Latest Comments for sscragg</title><link>http://disqus.com/by/sscragg/</link><description></description><atom:link href="http://disqus.com/sscragg/comments.rss" rel="self"></atom:link><language>en</language><lastBuildDate>Sat, 02 Aug 2008 15:23:43 -0000</lastBuildDate><item><title>Re: New School, New Focus on China, Japan, Korea....</title><link>http://paulallison.tumblr.com/post/44463861#comment-1081433</link><description>&lt;p&gt;Hey Paul,&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Are you looking for any stories about the Chinese/Japanese/Korean culture (I'm assuming that they would want to read works representing other cultures) or just for teens in general, keeping with a world view?&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Well, here are my suggestions:&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Bone by Fae Myenne Ng (novel)&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;any short stories by Junot Diaz (several are online at the New Yorker web site--including the basis for the Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao...which I just finished and kept thinking about how I would teach it...so good!)&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;"Heaven-Hell" by Jhumpa Lahiri (short story--I think this is online at the new yorker's web site, along with several others...but this one is particularly good for adolescents, I think)&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Kitchen by Banana Yoshimoto (novel)&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The Interpreter by Suki Kim (novel)&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;And I know film isn't on your list, but I've shown the movie "Double Happiness" starring a then-unknown Sandra Oh. A fellow English teacher of mine also used to show the movie, "East is East" frequently in class.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;"Lost Sister" by Cathy Song (poem)&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;I love the poems of Martin Espada, and I used to teach several.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;I could go on (and on and on)...guess I still think like an English teacher, huh?&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Sandy &lt;br&gt;&lt;/p&gt;</description><dc:creator xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/">sscragg</dc:creator><pubDate>Sat, 02 Aug 2008 15:23:43 -0000</pubDate></item></channel></rss>
