Like you I've tried to minimize the noise of social networking in my life so I miss lots, which is fine, but sometimes I miss important stuff like this!

Things are good. Five years into the journey of starting and leading a new church. Still love Jesus. Still love my wife and kids. Still love Denver. Still love our church and the opportunity to be part of God's mission in the city. So overall, things are really good. Thanks for asking.

Re: Autism

John, thank you so much for sharing. I'm sure this has been a challenging journey and it sounds like there is more ahead in the way of seeking physical, mental & spiritual health. I pray that God will bless your humility and transparency in sharing and use it to bless and encourage many others on this journey. Grateful for you and your life and all that God has made you to be.

Re: Addendum: Steven Furtick Needs Your Seat

I think you left out the most disturbing aspect of "The Code" page on Elevation's site:
"We understand what God has done in and through our church is not normal.
The only explanation is God’s hand of favor and mercy over a group of
people willing to follow Him faithfully."

Really? The ONLY explanation is God's hand of favor coupled with your faithfulness? Sounds like a self-reinforcing formula for disaster.

Re: Are Your Small Groups Thinking Too Small? Part 1 of 2

Bill, I agree with your caution and hope all the community/groups/discipleship pastors reading this will heed your warning. (Agreeing with the sentiment probably puts me in the "old guy" category too) These days I'm less interested in tinkering with the "middle layer" of congregational life where small groups or missional communities exist and more interested in how discipling relationships form at the lower, more intimate level of personal relationships. Mike Breen and the 3DM guys have been helpful for us and are helping our thinking as we pursue creating more intentional systems of discipleship. As you say, no silver bullets out there - just the pursuit of a Kingdom focused life for ourselves and those we lead.

Re: PR Tips for Social Media Ministry

This is amazingly helpful. Thanks for taking the time to share these thoughts, but moreover thanks for taking the time to sit down with me and enter into our story. I'm continually amazed at how God keeps bringing the people and resources we need at just the right time.
