I'm pretty sure that AOL bought it a few months ago, which might help or maybe hinder its growth -- too early to tell.

Re: Further Changes to Geek Estate

Congrats Drew. Real Estate Deal Means to the Real Estate Industry

Hi Todd,

Spencer from Zillow here.

Don't confuse visits with visitors. They're very different, as I'm sure you know.

Zillow had 10.7 million unique VISITORS in June (according to our internal data from Omniture) but we had 21.5M unique VISITS in June. So if you're going to pull out a 17.5 "visit" number for R.com, I'm going to have to pull out our 21.5M number. Typically we (and others) cite unique VISITORS not unique VISITS, but since you dropped a 17.5M number, I had to give you our comparable stat...

The third party measurement companies show that the gap between Zillow.com and R.com is small, and rapidly narrowing. Comscore showed 9.47M unique visitors for R.com in June, 7.23M for Zillow.com and 6.928M for Yahoo! Real Estate. Based on this Comscore data, Zillow plus Yahoo Real Estate will be 41% larger than R.com; even if you haircut that by around 10% (the amount of our duplicated audience), it's hard to dispute the simple fact that Zillow is now very viable alternative to R.com for agents and brokers looking to gain massive exposure through advertising.

See you at Inman Connect next week.

Re: Jay Thompson Takes Over at Carnival of Real Estate

Congrats Jay!

Re: Login to Your Account

Thank you!

Re: Online attorney rating service Avvo scores $10 million

Congratulations to Mark and Avvo!

Re: Palm Pre Apps For Real Estate

Palm? Geordie is at one end of the bell curve in terms of knowledge. For every one of Geordie, there is one (or more) novice who has no clue about online marketing. So I agree with Geordie -- sometimes the content can be less than satisfying, especially if you attend several of these a year. Still, I think Courtney is right -- the social aspect is very important, and unique to REBarCamps. For me, it's an opportunity to meet in person many of the people whom I communicate with around the RE.net in various places like GeekEstate, twitter, and Zillow Advice.

In terms of specific suggestions for content, I'd personally like to learn more about the logistics of video blogging and podcasting. What software and hardware are needed to do these things well?

Re: Power to the Seller: The Unzillowing of Real Estate

Joe,
Yes an inaccurate Zestimate can be misleading. That's not the question before us though.

The questions are:
1. Does a specific MLS rule affect which listings will appear on Zillow. [No, because Zillow isn't a member of the MLS, nor do we get our listings from that MLS.]

and

2. Is a seller better off having their listing on Zillow or not.

The answer to the second question is an unequivocal yes. In fact, it's even MORE beneficial to the seller to have their listing on Zillow if the Zestimate is inaccurate than if it's accurate.
