Stopped out on RTH, XRT shorts ,and Closed out my Visa calls last thurs-fri. Took a beating on those trades, ($2,800). Stopped out twice last week on my QQQQ short but repurchased puts Friday at close, third time is the charm.
FXP has been a home run, bought 2000 shares @ 10.33, also bought Sept $9 calls @ $1.55. I sold the December $11 calls @ 1.65, I think FXP has a lot more room to run so I bought half of the December calls back today. After fee's and everything, not up much but I am up. As of now I am short a small position on XRT, QQQQ and long FXP.

Looking at futures, it could be a very good day. If we do open a lot lower, I do not know if I should take profits or if I should just hold my shorts. It seems like we have an up day followed by a down down, so I just do not know. The good news for the shorts, we did not rally into the close yesterday or the day before, maybe the bulls are getting tired. I am leaning to holding on to my shorts, which means I should probably take profits.

I just looked at HPQ, they always beat earnings. If they actually missed, that would be huge.

I have no idea. I hate earnings and wish they were not reporting tonight. I learned the hard way not to play earnings. Over a year ago I played the MSFT earnings and hit BIG, feeling so proud and good I bet big and played the CSCO earnings. This was the qtr where the outlook was "lumpy". I lost everything I made on MSFT. I took a beating. After eating 3 or 4 servings of humble pie, I decided not to play earnings. Sometimes a company will miss and the stock still goes up, sometimes they exceed and the price goes down. Sometimes the price goes down after they announce only to be up big within a few days.

I avoid day trading and usually swing trade while building some long term positions (like UNG).

DRIV may be busted from a technical perspective. Picked up some puts. Not a lot, just a spec play. I think if we have a down day tomorrow, DRIV could really go down

For the most part, I will be short until the end of September. We may have more up days to come but I am convinced that sooner rather than later we will get a big pullback.

Market up 90 and I am going short, short, short. QID, FXP and adding to UNG.

I did not get a chance to short at the end of the day yesterday so I am doing it now. We could rally into the close but I am ready to eat that. Too many people on the TV are bullish.

Everyday I think the same thing and everyday it rallies in the last 30 min. While common sense would say you are right, I am playing it that the market has no sense. I took profits in the morning and am almost all cash except for UNG which I picked up some more a few minutes ago. I will wait until the last 30 minutes and jump back in. If we rally at the end, I will save my self some money when I short everything again. If it does not rally at the end, it is a bearish sign for tomorrow.

I will be adding to my FXP position today given any decent chance. I will also add to my UNG position. UNG is a long term play. I know the expectation is for the price of oil and gas to drop as the dollar gets stronger. I may go long the dollar to hedge but I am not sure if I will do that, I may just short oil. Will still hold my QID and puts on QLD unless we get a huge drop in the am. If we do that I will take my profits and play the afternoon last 30 min recovery.

I also started a position in UNG. This is out of my buy and hold fund. I also picked up FXP, sold my QID in the am and bought it back at the close

As far as USU, no real opinion. As far as the market as a whole, the current market is just going to leave bulls hurting. True unemployment is at 16.3%, home prices are still falling and foreclosures are still going up. Today I started a position in UNG and FXP and added to QID

What am I missing in this market?

The current market feels so much like middle and late 2008 market, that it is scary. from late 2007 to early 2008, the market moved from 14,000 down to 12,000 it recovered some of the loss to 13,000 and most analysts seemed to agree that we would not go into a recession. A few months later we go from 13,000 to 11,000 and again bad news is ignored and we whistle as we walk past the graveyard. From late 2008 to March 2009 we watch as our economy goes to crap and the market tanks down to 6,700.

I watch the news now and it seems that the vast majority of the analysts claim the recession is over. We ignore the bad news and everyone on TV is bullish on the market, I just do not get it. Home prices are still falling, foreclosures are still up and true unemployment is at 16.3% ( http://www.bls.gov/news.rel... ). The market is supposed to be forward looking but how are profits going to be generated when consumer spending makes up 70% of the economy and people do not have jobs. Companies have already done cost cutting, where will the profits come from. Everyone knows that revenue was down last quarter and most profit estimates were hit only due to cost cutting. You can only cut costs so much. The government has few or no bullets left, no more stimulus, no more $1,200 checks being mailed out, interest rates can only go up. Maybe I am a "Negative Nancy" but I am just not seeing how 3rd or 4th qtr numbers will be good. Maybe the market gets to 10,000 but I just do not see how it stays there.

I got out of everything during the morning dip. When I saw the futures this am, I almost shat my pants. Good thing the reports in the morning were bad or I would be planning the vacation for Rome, NY. All I have left are the puts I got yesterday afternoon on MWE. I think I will stay out of the market tomorrow and just wait until Monday.

Is a CAT short back on the table? Of course not taking into consideration any of the pre-open market news that is coming out tomorrow.
