Dave Asher says it is a fact Kirkland is the state's 12th largest city, but doesn't give a number. Mr. Asher please show your proof. I'm not saying you are wrong, just that you have given us nothing to prove your "fact." Simply give a population figure and where you got it. If its a fact then you must have figures to substantiate your statement.

Saturday's Seattle Times editorial has an estimate of 80,600 for Kirkland. That's the only number I've seen so far. The just completed federal census has Bellingham 12th with an exact count of 80,885.

Using the figure of 31,000 people used in the Seattle Times story on May 30 that are included in the annexation, and adding it to the official 2010 Census Bureau population for Kirkland of 48,787 there is a total of about 79,787. This makes Kirkland the 13th largest city, not the 12th. Number 12 is Bellingham at 80,885.

Both of the following statements were made in this article and both are wrong.
1) "Never before in the history of Orcas High School has a sports team made it to State and won."
2) "...has any Viking team gone to State and come back victorious."
Just taking five sports the Vikings have won 30 times at state (football 10, softball 5, baseball 5, boy's basketball 4, girl's basketball 3 and girl's soccer 3).

If the reporter had said they had never won a state championship, that would have been correct, but neither time was that said. Orcas Island has been victorious at state at least 30 times.

This Curves "news story" is no news story. All you've done is take a news release and run it as news. This is nothing but a free ad. You're supposed to at least rewrite these things and take out opinion.

This "story" is full of opinion. Who says its "convenient"..."has ample parking?" Who says it is a "highly efficent proven 30-minute workout?" Who says it "has trained staff?"

This is lazy and poor journalism

Cutting service to Canada should have occcured years ago, or better yet, never started in the first place. Now the state will probably try and take a boat off the San Juan run, which if they do, is totally asinine. Leave the ferry in the San Juans and take care of our own state's residents. We have no business fueling the economy of Vancouver Island.
