I'm of the opinion that for internal reference stuff, using AI or pictures from a Google image search are fine. Ideally? Perhaps you wouldn't need to. But I like having visual references for my characters. I have yet to use AI to do this but I don't think it's immoral/unethical. Now, as you said, if it's something you would otherwise pay an artist for then use an ethical means to get it: artist, stock photo, AI trained on images that are stock photos (as I understand Adobe to use), etc.

"Cis" is not a made up word. It's the opposite of the latin prefix "trans". So if someone is "transgender" the opposite of that (most people) would be "cisgender".

In the bigger picture the culture in which I was raised certainly "paid attention" to the book, though in a way that don't reflect my values. The parts of the south that I grew up in were very legalistic. I don't have those sort of values. I value social justice, loving my neighbor sacrificially, and repenting for the wrongs I've done to others. Those are values that are in the book and not ones that I learned from my culture or my family.

Assert whatever you like. ;-) I know it doesn't invalidate anything really since it's just an assertion.

Regarding evidence, my experience of humanity and its nature and the universe and how I perceive it through the lens of science point me towards the Bible's accuracy. I don't think that sort of evidence will sway you. I think that since it's accurate about the things I can perceive (given the limitations of the culture that brought it forth), then it's accurate about the things I can't (given my own limitations of understanding)..

I agree that many of the truths in the Bible aren't "unique". That doesn't mean that it's as valuable as any other "random" book. Many books contain nothing worthwhile.

I believe in a supreme being. The truths about humanity and the world as revealed in the Bible line up with my view of the world. Therefore (and this is simplifying the whole thing to a great deal), I find more value in the Bible and the view of the supreme being revealed therein than I do of any other religious text I've read.

I don't believe that the version of the Bible as we have it is perfect, by any means. It's close enough for me.

Doug,

I agree with everything until "abortion is another matter". You use words like " don't care" or " without consequence". On the pro choice side I would say there's plenty of caring and acknowledgment of consequences. And I honestly don't know many people who say that it isn't a baby.

I agree that it's immoral. The question is, should it always be illegal and if so, why. Bringing the Bible into it isnt helpful if for no other reason than thou shalt not kill is as inconsistently defined as any other commandment. As I said there was plenty of killing at God's command that involved women and children. It's one of those things that's hard for me to defend as a Christian. We have to deal with that.

Thanks for the post Teel. I certainly get what you're saying and I too balk at huge projects. I consider The Way of the Gun huge, but as you say I'm paying the authors the bottom end of what I consider a pro-rate ($.05/word) and I've budgeted for art, editing, and layout. I've also left myself some wiggle room for unforeseen expenses./marketing/etc. So it's as huge as it "needs" to be.

The next KS campaign I do will be much smaller and just for covering editing/art for a novel.

Regarding your backing my project as you have, I'm thankful. As I said before about any of my stuff, if it's not your cup of tea I don't want you buying it just to be a friend. Helping me spread the word and saving your ducats for something you're jonesing for is much better. And this way you get updates and if I had a few hundred like you who even kicked in a buck and wrote a blog post on top of that I bet you I'd get to the goal much more quickly than if people just said "Not interested" and went on their merry way.
