This entire thing is scary on so many levels:
1. Manufacturers will NEVER be able to count on every bad choice of the human beings who buy their products. EVER. People, you want your freedom to be stupid, but want someone else to be responsible for it---grow up!
2. Lawyers will always be able to find a way to convince enough people that someone else is responsible--we have generations of people who think that way!
3. Mom called in to say she gave her son permission to go on the trip--if boats manufacturers are so dangerous, WHY would a responsible parent give that permission, and, if she does, why is she not partially culpable?? (And Mom, I am not without compassion, I am making a point regarding dispersing responsibility to everyone to whom it belongs, not just the one with money.)
4. Please have your lawyer contact me--I am about to hit myself over the head with my Stanley Hammer, and I am pretty sure they have not provided safeguards for that--maybe I can get every hammer made from now on to come with inflatable pads!! Oh, and collect a few million $$ on the way...

Re: 590 KLBJ AM - Listen Live 24/7

fredhh,

Another problem with term limits is that your political heros then realize their "constituents" can no longer keep them permanently employed and would become immediately beholdin' to the special interests who can employ them when they are no longer in office. They don't have to be held responsible for their actions. I know I am cynical, but the only way term limits works is if there are honest, loyal, true representatives--not gonna find those in this day and time.

Our representative government was set up in a time where mass-communication was impossible. We now have the technology to communicate, voice opinions and vote without "representatives" doing this "for us." Unfortunately, Congress will not eliminate themselves...

I realize there are other issues with that (i.e. plain English wording, participation, etc.), but one can dream, can't he??

Re: 590 KLBJ AM - Listen Live 24/7

Regarding all the station's shortcomings, less Rush would beat the heck out of no Boortz!

Another hour or two of T&D and an extra hour of Boortz would improve things greatly as far as this listener is concerned. I know the ditto-heads (wouldn't you love to see a picture of what THAT is??) won't like that suggestion, but what an unproductive three hours that is... imagine having 3 hours of Pelosi on the air--not much difference, "my side is the ONLY way--no one else in the world has any good ideas." They both feel that way.

Re: 590 KLBJ AM - Listen Live 24/7

The TEA is like many things we (the voters) have allowed to exist, essentially in a vacuum, with no real control except by a handful of people. The education system, like many other things in this state and country, are all driven by the almighty dollar (do "this" or do "that" and get more funding) rather than provide an education--a meaningful education--to our children. Testing and the teaching procedures preparing for those tests have become the way of schools instead of practical education. Lifetime politicians, lobbyists and special interests all have more say in the system than the parents and constituents. The immediate-gratification society and knee-jerk decision making makes so much of what goes on now a big joke and a game they play with peoples' lives and future.

Things have been driven by money for a long time, don't get me wrong--it just seems that education used to be a preparation for the future and not simply a state or federal funding excercise. There are some great teachers out there, but administration (at most levels) seems to have a very different view of what the system needs to be.

Re: 590 KLBJ AM - Listen Live 24/7

Don'tcha love how this is a "one-way" law? It applies only to automobile drivers, not to the cyclists, so just imagine how there will be someone "challenge" a car or truck just to prove a point.

Why not make the white stripes on the side of the road 3' wide and have the cyclists stay on the other side of the stripe instead of riding as far to the left of the shoulder they can? It is a pretty wide shoulder on streets like Parmer, 360, etc.

Or, maybe autos should come with 3' "curb finders" like in the old days--only this time, make them rigid instead of spring-like. I'll stay 3' away from bikes---bikes stay 3' away from me!

Re: 590 KLBJ AM - Listen Live 24/7

I know the SCOTUS is the "final arbiter," but that does not mean they are always correct. Both major parties have issues that they believe the court decided wrongly (this one and abortion are just two examples).

Years ago, when the Supreme Court became more political than judicial, my personal feelings about their " judicial wisdom" changed drastically. Many decisions have been based on personal leanings as much as they have "the law," wouldn't you agree?

I noticed that no one has answered my question about whose opinion a corporation chooses to use in their "free speech" when a diversity exitsts. Like many things, this decision may make some happy and even make some legal sense--but the practicality and reality of it remains unclear and opens up some really shady opportunities for all concerned. We are already in a climate where anyone can say anything--truth or lie--about a candidate or office-holder and the ability to verify what is true or not becomes more and more difficult. We know how gullible many in this country are--get ready to be bombarded with more opinions that are put out as fact.

Re: 590 KLBJ AM - Listen Live 24/7

I am right there with you on my opportunity to avoid doing business with anyone or any company--a right I exercise almost daily. My contention is not that anyone's rights are being taken away--it is that rights are being given to an entity that does not necessarily have a united voice. For instance, where I work, the person in the next office, and the office after that, and the office after that ALL may have different feelings and opinions about any given issue or candidate. Who's opinion is going to be used as the "corporate" voice? Is it really a corporate opinion after all, or just a way to expense voicing an opinion that may or may not be unified?

I feel it is just BS for this to even be ruled on at all. Like you said, corporations are made up of individual "people," but look up the definition--it is separate from the individuals who comprise it and the PEOPLE have the rights they need--they just need to exercise them. Why should any expense incurred in that effort be "written off" under the guise of a corporate opinion?

If I go out and kill someone, should the company I own, my church, or my community all be held responsible since I belong to each of those and as an entity, they are all held accountable, too? Me thinks not. Rights and responsibility go hand in hand, and individuals have free speech rights and our country's history includes providing for a free press. I just don't believe that extends to corporations--conservative or liberal--to have those same things. Should AIG have a bigger corporate voice than the people who work there, for instance?

Re: 590 KLBJ AM - Listen Live 24/7

I don't disagree with your points about how a media outlet chooses (or ignores!) one story over another. Again, it is one of the changes in "the news" that we have seen over several decades. Adding to the problem, though, is alot like what this administration has done to address economic disasters--it is action, but not a solution. I don't think the SCOTUS ruling--right or wrong--will help matters or make things better; it may just make things worse. And we both know we will get bombarded with more nonsensical BS. Just FACTS would be good...
It seems like there was a time when the story was what happened, not all the attempts to determine why or what the motivation was. We have evolved to a society of mind-readers who, regardless of the intent, reality, or lack of either, feel like they have to inject, make-up or outright lie about the issues. ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox, CNN--all do it. So does Rush. ALL of it is stupid. But it is what we have become.

With regard to the ruling: I simply feel that corporations are NOT the same as individuals. A corporation, by definition, is a separate entity from the PEOPLE who comprise it. People have constitutional rights-corporations have tax advantages and legal protections. When, specifically, does a corporation become like an individual? Individuals, even those who work for a corporation, still have their rights.

Re: 590 KLBJ AM - Listen Live 24/7

Pat,
I pretty much hate what media outlets have become--too much pushing an agenda rather than providing the "news," but, AS LONG AS IT IS STRICTLY ON THE EDITORIAL PAGE, that is part of what they do. If it is part of what should be factual reporting, it is a different issue.

If the companies want to buy or start a media outlet, let them do so, but otherwise, they are not part of the free speech of the constituion---individuals are.

Why is it that big media corporations (excluding EIB and Fox) are considered liberal??

Re: 590 KLBJ AM - Listen Live 24/7

Till trying to figure out why ANY corporation should be given the same consideration as individual Americans are when it comes to free speech rights...I doubt that EVERYONE at most public companies are on the same page as what a corporation might spout outloud in the form of attacks or praise. Now if a company IS a political group specifically, it would make sense that all would be on board, but come on!
I pulled out my copy of the constitution that Ron Paul provided me, and still cannot find any reference to rights of corporations in it when it comes to free speech...

Re: 590 KLBJ AM - Listen Live 24/7

W never went to Dover, so we don't know what would have happened. What separates the extremisms in this country from those? It should be respect and acceptance, but we are hearing things from fellow Americans that make me think we are losing even those aspects.

I love it when I hear how we are having our freedoms taken away by a PROPOSED health system overhaul, but never heard those same people complain when Homeland Security was formed. Or that this or that is being shoved down our throats--where were you SAME PEOPLE (not the left) when we were taken into war through lies and deception? Those of you on the left are the same way---only speak up when something isn't going your way. Someday, I hope we wake up that we often act the same way as those groups we criticize and think we have a right to "change to be more like us."

I think every one of us would have a problem if the leaders of another country decided the citizens of the USA are not living like they think we should so they come over here and start to make changes so that our way of living is more like theirs, would we not? Oh, wait--bin Laden seems to have had that effect already, just not with an army--started with the Towers, but look at our economy and our in-fighting now. Think he may be laughing still?

Wake up folks---please---I have kids that need to live on and I fear what they are facing...

Re: 590 KLBJ AM - Listen Live 24/7

I agree...and can that be permanently??!! I, along with many others, have vacated that spot on the dial of my radio. I come here to check in and see if anything has changed, but from all the posts here, I am guessing it has not changed. Too bad---all those folks who pay to be advertisers on KLBJ are probably a little miffed. I would hope so, anyway. I feel sorry for your family, if you have one. You don't know anything about me or how much money I have made, but I am guessing it is more than most Rush followers. That is not the most important thing to me, however, and it does not define me.

My problems with those who think like Rushbo, or Pelosi: their way is the only way, no one else has any decent ideas. For Rushbo and his ilk, money is their god---if you don't make some given amount of money (at least more than the next guy), you aren't worth a crap. Pelosi and her followers have a problem equally as bad--control. Neither is worthy of my vote or following.

Does it ever strike you as odd that those who opposed going to war in Iraq over WMD deception were "unpatriotic" and those who oppose anything brought up by the dems are not looked at in the same way? 5,000 dead and counting in the wars---more than bin Laden killed on 9/11. He probably laughs every day at the death toll and the economic chaos we find ourselves in--that was his real target, wasn't it?

Washington, REGARDLESS OF THE PARTY IN CHARGE, has it all wrong---one day you MAY be wise enough to figure that out--if your money could only buy you wisdom.

Rush is only peddling himself and a hateful, spiteful agenda. Those who complained and forced KLBJ to take this drastic action are very likely not even listeners of the program--they just took up a "cause" to create havoc and management caved. Those of us who WERE listeners (note the past-tense) can easily ask places we do business if the business advertises on KLBJ and choose NOT to do business there if they advertise on KLBJ. We WERE listeners and that is who KLBJ should have paid attention to instead of "political heroes" and others who care more about maintaining divisiveness than anything else.
