My favorite part of Avatar was the opening space scene, but the exposition was pretty clunky so maybe this will clean it up a bit.

So now there are three versions of the film. Cameron's trying to be the next Blade Runner. Any bets on how long until a fourth?

Re: The Kicker: 3 Explanations for ‘Inception’

When I first walked out of the theater, I thought there were two options: 1 - Cobb got Saito, he made the call, and he returned to his children or 2 - Cobb chose to stay in Limbo and see the projection of his kids. I always thought that the last scene was real, I guess I'm an optimist. After reading Devin Faraci's piece, I saw the elegance of the "it was all a dream" interpretation. It fits perfectly, each character fitting into the filmmaking process. I really like looking at the movie that way, but in the end I prefer your view - that only the sequences we are told are dreams are dreams.

Anyway, what makes the movie so great is that you can look at it in so many ways, and it still holds up. Nolan delivered a very intelligent film that at the same time was extremely entertaining to watch, and that is rare. My appreciation for this film is growing as I think about it, which is amazing.

Re: Inception Review: Eye Candy, or Mind Candy?

I completely agree, Adam. I went into the movie expecting something completely different, but Inception as it exists now, is just as awesome. I think Nolan found the perfect mix of action, intelligence, and emotion. The movie is mainly an action/heist film (the multi-layered "finale" that takes up most of the movie is awesome) but has smarts and emotion behind the story, driving it. It's that magnificent combination which makes Inception a great movie in my opinion.

Re: Why a Les Grossman Movie Would Be Good for Tom Cruise

Seeing Cruise in a fatsuit was one of the best parts of Tropic Thunder. It was hilarious. You could tell he was having fun with it because it is definitely not what he's known for. I'm not sure how good a Les Grossman movie would be, but the character is very funny, and it would definitely be a fun spin-off. Despite his eccentricity in real life, Cruise is still an internationally recognized star and could easily get back into starring roles if he wants to.

Re: STAR WARS GPS From TomTom – Listen to Darth Vader, C-3PO, Yoda or Han Solo Tell You Where to Go

This is amazing. The plot was good, but the pacing was just weird. I don't know, I guess choppy is the right word. And as for the action, I thought the sequel verged on too much. When I rewatched the first Iron Man, I was amazed at how much dialogue there is in that movie. Black Widow didn't impress me that much, but I guess I've been spoiled by Hit Girl.

Re: Holder: Feds may sue over Arizona immigration law

America is supposed to be different! Everyone, as human beings, have their fundamental rights, including the fourth amendment.

Requiring anyone to carry around their "papers" is exactly like a fascist dictatorship. I can't believe the support this horrid piece of legislation is getting.

Also, why require anyone to learn English? It's not the official language of the US.

If we truly want to call ourselves a free country, we need to start caring more about civil rights than fear-mongering.

Yes, many immigrants resort to crime, but attacking them further is not going to help. If we knew who they were by simply letting them live here, we could convict them much more easily in a court of law.

Re: Titanic 2 Is Coming Soon

The guy in the green picture looks like Michael Douglas.

Re: [Jack's Review] Iron Man 2

I still thought it was a great start to the summer movie season. It was just a really fun movie. And while I agree with all of your fundamental points, I don't think the movie descended to too far down into mindless entertainment. There was a coherent plot, although it definitely could have been toned down to flow better.

Re: Roger Ebert on “Why I Hate 3-D (And You Should Too)”

At first, I really was against 3D in any film, but now I'm more in the middle. Although I agree that not all movies should be in the format, if it is done well, it can definitely enhance the experience.

I was even more impressed with the 3D in HTTYD than Avatar - I think it works so much better in animated films, at least for now.

That being said, if the technology can get good enough to really simulate how we perceive the world (which it absolutely does not right now), then it will really cement itself as the next step in cinema. For now, however, I think only certain films should be presented in 3D (ones that wish to pull you into the world of the movie), and it should be entirely up to the individual filmmakers.

We'll just have to wait and see. Scorsese will probably win over everyone but the most staunch anti-3D fanatics.

Re: Hulu To Launch $9.95 Subscription Service

I don't mind the one-commercial breaks on Hulu. That said, I would gladly pay $9 to get those to go away and have access to older episodes. I might not subscribe continuously, but if I wanted to catch up on a show, it would be a great service. I really hope they start getting their content in HD and keep the commercials shorter than regular TV.

Re: Details on Todd Phillips’ “Project X”

A quick update from Collider: The film is gearing up to shoot hopefully this summer with a release date sometime next year. Warner Bros. is financing and it will NOT be in 3D. Still an interesting concept, though. Also, Philips said that calling it a "party movie" is oversimplification.

Re: Kevin Conroy Calls Out Christian Bale’s Batman Voice

I agree with JGandolf - the voice was much better in BB than in TDK. I'm sticking with Ratatouille. The storytelling in that film is top-notch, it's original, and it looks beautiful. I almost went with WALL-E, but that movie really fell in the last half.

That being said, The Incredibles, Up, Toy Story, and Finding Nemo were all fantastic as well.

I don't think Pixar is overrated - sure, many people may just like their movies because they feel they're supposed to, but if you look at them, all of their films are great (even the weaker ones, like A Bug's Life and Cars).

Re: /Film Boston - Bong Joon Ho’s Mother, Jonathan Demme Accepts the Coolidge Award, The Art of the Steal

I was lucky enough to have a screening of The Art of the Steal in my area (I live near Philly, so that makes sense.) that included a panel discussion with the director, producers, and some of the main subjects featured in the film. It was a great experience seeing the movie so close to where the events transpired. You could tell that most people in the theater had direct knowledge of the Barnes Foundation, as I did not.

However, unfortunately the discussion shied away from the film itself and turned into an argument over the politics involved. It was great to hear your interview. Those are the questions I was dying to hear answered while I was stuck listening to an argument over the Barnes' move.

I think the movie brings to light a question that has really been heating up in recent years - how objective should a documentary be? I think you should have an opinion, but you can't create propaganda, and I definitely think that Argott created an very well-done film that has its opinion, but presents it without sermonizing or obscuring the facts.

Re: First Look: Pixar’s Day & Night

That picture looks incredible.
