Their all made in garage band or equiv' by amateurs who have no clue what a mix or for that matter music should sound like. Those of us who actually went to college and chose professional mentors from whom to learn the science and art of music and recording prefer music with a dynamic range greater than 6 dB! One expects some heavy dynamic compression in broadcasting to make it easier to listen to when driving, etc. But when you play a CD and it has no Dynamic Range, well, somebody just got to chummy with the compressor plug-in in their DAW. Then on top of it, applying major data compression and you may as well be going back to music on AM radio days...

Re: What Happened to the Music?

My thoughts exactly! Even most of the guys that work for me (as sound professionals) can't hear the difference between 256K mp3's and CD. So sad...We are a dying breed. Awe, but I shall train my young son to hear the difference and appreciate high quality music recordings. We shall not die away!
