The CITY (as opposed to a village) has a single water supply source that is shared by three sets of consumers: old residents, new residents and commercial areas. In the old residential areas, they get their "share" of water (1-2 hours of supply) every other day. I saw many households (the ones who haven't installed their personal tubewells) collecting rain water via drains for their non-drinking needs. is scary but probably the shape of things to come.
