Great job!

Re: RockMelt: The Convergence of Social Information

Josh,

You raise an great point. I agree with you. It comes down to nothing more than personal preference. While the community's feeling towards cross-platform messaging plays a part in the decision, ultimately it's just what works best for the individual and what their needs are.

May "borrow" your idea and expound upon it in a future blog post, if you don't mind. ;-)

Re: RockMelt: The Convergence of Social Information

I don't believe it it does, Michael. While I use RockMelt as more of a filter, I haven't put a lot of thought into how it could/would help in putting my messages out. Now that I'm thinking about it, I tend to use Twitter.com or CoTweet for most of my tweeting, which is connected to my Facebook.

Re: Something of your own

DadCreates.com is a great example of exactly what I'm talking about. And the fact that it was started out of the ashes of a major life change is all the more reason to share your story and encourage others to build something of their own.

I agree with you about our online community here in Birmingham and am humbled to have met so many brilliant people such as yourself. I can't wait to see what our community can continue to do, together.

Re: Getting that homey feeling

Thanks! Conversions are marked as people to contact the sales department. Close percentage is determined by the amount of people who clicked through vs the amount who converted. People who don't contact the sales department are disqualified.

Performance Based Pay

Now, I agree that marketers need to be held more accountable for their campaigns and should be using the new tools available to do so. And I too would be very interested in what performance-based pay scale would do to the industry.

Client Management:

I disagree. Marketing people talk to their audience all the time. However, their audience isn't to whom they market. Executives are the "clients" of marketers. They are the ones who marketers have to convince that it's a good idea to spend money on their ideas. And I'm sure an executive will get on the phone and wake a marketer out of a dead sleep to correct a campaign that is seen as offensive or obscene.

One of the key takeaways from Barry's talk and feeling I've gotten about sales and marketing over the years is that they tend to be at each other's throats. And that just doesn't make that much sense when I can draw so many parallels between their jobs. Instead of being at each other's throats, I think there's a lot that can be learned from each about the other's tactics that would help grow both disciplines.

Re: Birmingham Alabama is Magical

*wave* Good to see you online Ms. Virginia!

Re: Birmingham Alabama is Magical

Chris is right. As long as you have purpose and focus don't have to be defined in just a sentence or two. They don't even have to be neat and clean. But you do need to make sure that you have defined them for yourself. While time changes things, purpose does breeds focus.

Re: What Is the Focus and Purpose of Your Blog

I'm finding more and more that my blog is my place to develop grow my opinions on subjects our community is discussing. Really dig into the scientific "why" behind the reasons people act/react the way they do online and through the use of Social Media tools. There's no better way to engage people if you understand why they are doing what they are doing.

Re: Social Media Dorks Get an Anthem [VIDEO]

WOW.
