Hey George, why did the Star endorse Rogers in the last three elections? You do realize that he was opposed by democrats in all three. The only bias I am hearing is yours; Rogers deservedly lost the endorsement this time and you complain.

Don't forget too that Mike Rogers was one of only three congressmen (out of 378) to vote AGAINST the War Profiteering Prevention Act of 2007; what was the deal there, too much pork, or not enough?

Good points; I found it interesting that Rogers has used the "too much pork" argument when he is explaining why he has voted against things like the new GI Bill and Minimum Wage increases that might have been of assistance to people living in the 3rd District but he did not suffer any such reservations when he voted for the second version of the bail out with its' $140 billion in added pork. It looks like what amounts to too much pork for a veteran and too much pork for a Wall Street banker fall under different guidelines.

On the topic of Ray Bryan; I disagree with you. I think a judge should adhere to the law and so I disagree with you wholeheartedly that the decisions against Ray Bryan were in anyway unfair. Since Ray Bryan told the community (in this newspaper) that he was dropping the write-in campaign, that should be the end of it; that is unless you are saying that he was not being honest with the public and that he has not dropped his write in campaign.

She's a dream come true; I am thrilled she is McCain's running mate. I wonder if "Joe Six Pack" and his wife have a $150,000 wardrobe and $22,000 worth of makeup services (for two weeks, did someone say something about lipstick...).

I love how these guys categorically refer to anyone that opposes them as a liberal. Gads, I was airborne infantry and a calvary scout, spent most of my life working in defense, and now I am liberal and a socialist? Wrong, try again.

As for speaking for the public, well, I think the public will speak for itself on the 4th. Still I learned something from this self appointed spokesman for the American public, I did not know Americans had long been wanting and waiting for a vice president that could not even make into office without being found culpable of ethics violations and abuse of power, that does not understand the constitution, or the role and responsibility of a vice president. I did not hear that from the "socialist left" either; that came straight out of her mouth.

Oh yes, of course you are correct. I want to be on hand when the first shipment arrives too. Mike Rogers said that it would be "over his dead body"; now he was not there when we protested for neutralization but I fully expect him to make good on that promise.

I can answer part of that, I think Segall has a keen understanding of the financial issues facing the people that work (or that would like to work, or that used to work) in the district. He seems to understand what it means to force a district resident to drive into another district, or state, or country to earn money to keep a home here going (as I have had to do).

Unlike Mike, he seems to understand how well trickle down economics works when coupled with unfair trade agreements. If you lost a job and ended up working for minimum wage, you might appreciate a candidate that supports minimum wage increases and Rogers typically does not support those types of increases along with things like S-CHIP funding that might end up helping the children of those in economic distress, or measures intended to provide federal assistance to those whose jobs have been eliminated by 'globalization'.

Further, unlike Rogers, Segall does not support the bailout in its current form. He did not support it at $700 billion, and he did not support it with an extra $140 billion in pork tacked on to it. If you think that the bailout was the right answer, please explain why the US taxpayer should be obligated to cover the golden parachutes of banking industry executives that led our way into this mess (along with deregulation), or why the US taxpayer should be thrilled with the AIG response to their gift of $85 billion. When is the last time you were invited on a $440,000 vacation or had a $180 an hour massage?

On the topic of his repeated votes against minimum wage, Rogers has said that he rejected minimum wage increases when they came along with too much pork attached. Where was that sense of responsibility when it came to signing a financial bailout plan with $140 billion in pork attached. I suppose it is okay for the bankers but not for some guy trying to get by on minimum wage.

Or on veterans issues, you'll find that it takes more than saying that you support veterans to actually help them. You have to vote to support them and Rogers typically does not. Segall is a strong advocate of veterans issues and he actually knows the issues.

If that is the sort of experience that you admire then Rogers is your man .

Is that Charles Burgess, a Rogers donor, from Blue Mountain Industries? I have been watching them tear the old Blue Mountain mill down. What new business is going in there?

It seems to me that there are a lot of Rogers donors and members of his leadership council writing these 'heartfelt' letters to the Star; seems like a plan. It sounds like the only thing you have bragging rights to is the work at the depot. I would brag quietly if I sold out 15,000 permanent jobs for a few thousand temporary jobs. And when you report the dollar value of the contracts worked at the depot, why don't you list the amount of money that actually came into Alabama rather than the amount that went to the out of state parent company?

Lastly, why don't you ever put the chemical weapons incinerator in your list of Rogers' accomplishments; I do remember his statement regarding how pleased he was that the work on the incinerator was moving along ahead of schedule.

Tonia, you might as well vote for Mike because his favorite color is blue; his stance on abortion is just as relevant since a US congressman can do exactly nothing about abortion. In the last six years, name one thing Mike did on the issue of abortion other than to proclaim that he is against it and that his opponents are for it (which isn't true anyway, not that I suppose it would matter to you). Just remember on the 4th of November that AL-3 Congressman Mike Rogers was proud to sign off on both versions of the bailout (ever notice that if Rogers tied his own shoes, that he'd issue a press release proclaiming that he was 'proud' to do it). Rogers signed it in spite of his 'serious reservations'; hey Mike, that was billions, with a 'b'. If you had serious reservations, just do like you did with the GI Bill extensions, minimum wage increases, S-CHIP, and the War Profiteering Prevention Act of 2007; just 'proudly' vote against it.

You have not even finished handing out the last pile of cash and you are talking about 'another bipartisan solution'; how much will that run up the tab? You might be number 402 but you are still dangerous. Now in this next 'solution', will the taxpayers be getting the $180 an hour massages or do we just get to pick up the tab on that one too.

Too bad we don't have a harbor around here, I feel compelled to push tea into one.

(Washington, DC) - Congressman Mike Rogers released the following statement this afternoon regarding the finance stabilization bill.

"I made a vote of conscience today to help protect East Alabama's Main Street - our jobs, our home values, and our economy. It was an imperfect bill, but I believed it was the right thing to do despite my serious reservations about it. I can only hope my concerns about serious economic peril will be proven wrong, and hope Congress will soon return to work to create another bipartisan solution to address our economic challenges.

Such a bill should work in tandem with the separate economic stimulus legislation I supported this week, which would provide important economic benefits for everyday Americans like an extension of unemployment insurance and additional funding for Medicaid."
