I had an experience where I *thought* I was aware of some brain pre/post (?) processing.

I'm a software engineer, working in a typically crappy semi-open (read: noisy) work space. As listening to music while working is a distraction to me, I don't wear headphones so I have to filter out various overhead conversations to get anything done.

Once, while working hard on some problem or other, I was suddenly aware that somebody said had just said "... and they shaved me from head to toe." That grabbed my attention! Note I could not recall any other of the two or three ongoing conversations.

One of the following must have happened:

1. One conversation started to get interesting, and by brain decided to "wake" me up just in time for the shaving comment, or

2. My Brain was processing the various conversations, tossing out most as noise, but once the shaving comment was processed, woke me up, but backed up time so I thought I heard it.
