Historically, gay men and women have been very useful to people in the upper ranks of power. Think of all the gay congressional staffers (including one of Rick Santorum's staffers!), gay aides-de-camp in wartime, walkers for their wives, etc. &lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Not to mention that Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Mike Mullen grew up in Hollywood as the son of Ann-Margret's publicist. So he's probably known gay men all his life. Which hasn't stopped him from announcing that he intends to fully enforce DADT until it's repealed.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;The thing is, it's all too easy for these guys to say, "I don't personally have anything against gay people, some of my best friends blah blah blah.
