I didn't see it as being about a dog for two reasons:
one, it was in XY Files: Poems on the Male Experience
two, she names body parts (fingernails, upper arm) not found on dogs.
Also if you think about a man's knees they really are furry.

I did type it up myself and those were in fact typos. Thank you for pointing them out; they should be fixed now. The italics were in fact part of the original poem as it was in XY Files (the book where I found it).

Are you sure? I'm certainly not claiming any of this work as my own and many of these were published in various different places anyway. There are also many, many sites that do not cite their sources for similar/the same things. If any of my readers would like to know my original sources there are various ways to contact me and I'd be glad to tell them. Of course, some of these, my only source is a handout from class, so that wouldn't be much help anyway, unless the person went to the same schools I have.

http://www.gramercytypewrit... is where I got mine. I respooled the ribbon onto the spools that came with my typewriter (the bran of which I can't remember right now) but he also carries specific spool/ribbon combos. It was $10 for the generic spool/ribbon but since you move the ribbon as parts dry up/get used it should last a long time. I don't know if he has an option to order and have something shipped, though.

I guess that might not be the "theme" but more of an interpretation. A theme could be "who doesn't want to die a wonderful death?" Or "so few of us die wonderful deaths"

I read it as something like this:

All of us die. If given the option, who wouldn't choose to die in the most fantastic, dramatic (and publicized) way possible? We're all going to die. Very few of us, though, will go out in a frenzy of disaster that will be known throughout.

Not necessarily progress in the way it's usually talked about (scientific progress, social progress) but a progression through change. Don't you think it would be nice to be able to take your old life out of a box and just put it back on like a comfortable sweater when your current life became too overwhelming or stressful or simply not how you'd like it?
