They tour the USA twice a year, also in the fall. Luckily for me there are some local venues at which they always perform so I try to catch them on each tour. This was my first time in Nashville though. The Nashville stop was their next to last stop on the tour. Sorry you missed them, but be sure to check their website and www.boysoloist.com for the fall tour dates to be published as soon as they become available.

Re: Wiener Sängerknaben – March 22, 2009 Concert

Wow! Yes, I was hoping they would tell me where Kay was, but they did not. :( He is also an extraordinary soloist and I was disappointed when he was not on tour with Schubertchor since I'm quite certain that's the choir he is in. Oh well.

Re: Wiener Sängerknaben – March 22, 2009 Concert

No quez (ridiculous name, by the way), my opinion did not change. In fact, I wrote this review on March 24 and posted it to another site that day. A choir's guestbook is not the place to make a lengthy review of the concert. In addition to my question about Kay, all I said there was "I really enjoyed the concert." That's true, albeit a small statement from which to deduce my entire "opinion" of the concert. I did enjoy the concert. I always do or I would not attend so many. That doesn't mean I don't have opinions on the pieces, performers, conductor, or whether the choir's international status has changed over the years.

Re: Once again I am a birthday boy

Alles Gute zum Geburtstag!

Re: Troye Sivan – For Them

Troye has a very nice voice and is, indeed, quite talented, but I find the lyrics of this song mawkish and amateur. You're right, I need to correct that to 2006 when I last saw Schubertchor. It was November, 2006 in Chicago (and Brucknerchor in 2005 and Haydenchor in 2004 and Mozartchor in 2003...). I feel old now. Yes, some boys are definitely still in Schubertchor. It's possible I remembered incorrectly about the soloist or some tracks. I'm only human (more or less). Either way, I think Hibiki is a very talented soloist and the choir's Silk Road songs are great. I encourage everyone to buy the choir's new CD and DVD. That being said, the administration and faculty of the choir, as I'm sure they are already aware, have work to do on their part to return Wiener Sängerknaben as the paragon of boys' choirs.

Re: 30th Annual Young Artist Awards [Winners update]

Aw, poor Freddie. ;) Maybe he won for Finding Neverland or Charlie and the Chocolate Factory a few years ago and they needed to spread the recognition around.

Skandar Keynes is a good choice though! Did I vote for him? I don't remember. Did I vote at all? Hmmmm.....

Brandon Waltes in Australia is a terrible pick! Of the four films voted above it here, I've seen three and they were all MUCH better films and performances! I've never seen Låt Den Rätte Komma In, but I think I'll buy it soon.

You're not missing anything by not seeing Tropic Thunder. The performances in those other movies, of which I have seen none, must have been nauseous for Brandon Soo Hoo to have won. His was certainly nothing special.

I don't think I've seen any of those Shorts. I did so just to test something (and ended up testing this question I have now). Now that I've joined Disqus (my Disqus username being quex), the comment I posted under queχ earlier today has been changed to quex (the χ is now an x). Obviously not a big deal here, but if I posted under a completely different name at another blog (same email address though), would they all change to "quex?"

Re: Upgraded comments system – Disqus

It remained queχ for several hours until after I registered my email address at Disqus, then it changed to quex. I was just curious. Also, do you always have to login to Disqus before posting a comment for it to be organized into your Disqus profile? When I registered my email address, it "claimed" all the other posts that I have on theskykid.com. However, for the one I made below, I did not login to Disqus before posting it. I figured since Disqus now had that email registered to my profile, it would automatically associate it like it had the others (like Gravatar does - just recognizing the email address). However, it did not "claim" it to my profile and the comment below says "unclaimed profile." I guess my simple question is, will Disqus only track the comments you make if you login with your Disqus username before posting them or will it track all comments (on Disqus-enabled sites) just by using the email address registered to your profile? Sorry for the questions!

Re: Upgraded comments system – Disqus

I figured out the answer to my (probably obvious) question. You can change your "Display Name" in your Disqus profile and that automatically changes all the blog entries registered to your profile. I'm getting the hang of it! I definitely prefer subtitles. If I had no subtitles available, clearly dubbed audio would be better than nothing. That being said, I have watched several movies that had no subtitles or translated audio soundtrack. I still enjoy them, but I honestly would not put any in my top 25 coming of age movies. There is much more to a movie than vocal language, but it IS an important part.

Re: Subtitled , dubbed – no translation

lol, Yes that is the worst! I have relocated several times myself and am rather new to my current residence. I find myself in a similar place. Some advice is to join a club (maybe a bike club), join a church if you're religious, volunteer for community service, get a job around people (you will surely meet a lot of people as a lifeguard), and talk to people everywhere you go. Even if it's at the grocery store, make small talk with ther person next to you in the isle. For example, ask her if she knows how to tell when a pineapple is ripe. If you see someone on a bike, tell him you are new to the area and looking for some good trails. Small talk will eventually lead to interesting conversations. Always talk about their interests first. People want to talk about themselves. After someone has talked with you for a little while, he/she will be comfortable and curious of your interests. Be friendly and make eye contact too. And when you do hit it off with someone, be sure to meet that person again. Ask him/her to lunch or for a drink to discuss the topic more. Most importantly, be yourself. Good luck!

Re: The art of Pierre Joubert

I just recognized some of his artwork in the book "Histoire des Maîtrises en Occident" by Alain Gout.

Re: MY DOG SKIP (2000) ****1/2 movie review by THE SMALL TOWN CRITIC

SPOILER ALERT ------> I thought this movie would have been good if the dog died at the end. The story moved along well and had real potential to climax at the end with a lesson about loss and grief that the viewer would have felt, but they took the easy way out and gave it a sappy and predictable ending. It is just a Hollywood-style family film that they might try to call "drama."

Re: Straalen McCallum

I like the white, athletic ankle socks with his tuxedo (0:35) - a classy touch! ;) A very nice projection anyway.
