Just saw Reel Steel at the nearby cinema . Unfortunately I saw it dubbed in Spanish - yet this does not affect too much the experience . It felt like I was there amongst the audience in the fighting scenes as my seat was surrounded by enthusiastic youngsters who cheered up the fighting robots . Fully agree with the author of the review when he stated that the trailer was not too appealing - and I would not be surprised if many people choose not to see the film because of it . I myself had hard time convincing myself it was worth seeing - trough the reviews of Bernardo and Rod at Rivenmaster.com convinced me to give it a try - and I liked it a lot. Of course I see the story as a coming of age one and to me that was the essence of the film . Dakota Goys was great as am actor ...and a dancer ( :

Loved the soundtrack and the effects - the story felt familiar - and a bit predictable - but the film really entertained !

I have used Outbrain for quite a while at TheSkyKid.com - however at the end when I started optimizing the site for speed and SEO I decided that a third party solution was not the way to go. Since this day we started using a related posts plugin and are content with the results .

Like every reader of the site I also voted for the awards. While I have not seen all titles I have seen most and voted accordingly. Some categories are quite competitive - such as best acting for example - and will be interesting to see what the results will be in March when the final results will be announced. The nominations were prepared on the basis of suggestions and discussions with people who closely follow the coming of age genre as such. Yet I would love to see if anyone will suggest a title that was not included, but should of have...etc

I am really glad that the interview with Johnny is receiving a lot of well deserved attention . I find myself listening to " Hands to the Sky" almost daily lately and more than once per day. Additionally I would confess that I was quite curious about Johnny and his personality having seen his clips - and am glad that the interview turned out quite informative and interesting . I will be looking forward for another single Johnny !

Hello Dean,

First let me assure you that no one is scamming TheSkyKid.com . I see that the author of the article responded to you as well - as far as I know him he is quite a free minded person and likes to say / write the things he thinks. In that sense the article is definitely not fake . When I do my own movie reviews or articles I also try to put things the way I see them - keeping in mind only the family friendly nature of the site and the fact that what appears on it is likely to be read by people of all ages ( I can tell you I have been criticized even for that ).

As I said YouTube is unfamiliar to me - other than its casual usage. I do know for a fact that one can purchase an advertisement at Facebook for a product , service or a website - and this is perfectly accepted technique there. However no matter how many likes or subs one has if behind them thre are no real people who support the site / product and service it all seems to me like a wasted money or efforts . May be I am wrong...may be on YouTube thinks work differently .

I am not too familiar with YouTube , yet I just went to Daniel`s channel and clicked on about 20 profiles of people who left a comment there. All of them were an active YouTube users. Same I saw on his Twitter channel. And from the comments that were left so far on the site. Other than that as you may read from my own comment its the music that Danel J does and the way he presents it that makes an impression on me . At the moment I can`t comment further on your statement

Great introduction Rj. Personally I discovered Daniel J and his music about a week after his first clip was released . At the time I was not that impressed , but having read your article and watched the rest of the clips on his account he clearly gets better and better - a clear evidence of his determination as you wrote in the article. He has a great voice for ballads which is why I love his cover of "Adele`s " Someone Like you " . As you described his voice " well-suited to romantic beats " - I am sure that it alongside his good looks will make quite a few girl`s hearts tremble . He is quite photogenic as well and has a talent to star in front of the camera - which really shows . Now alongside the well chosen covers he does - and in the rate he is gaining fans , subscribers ...etc hopefully soon we will hear an original song ...I wonder if it would be a ballad ....may be.

In addition of being very beautiful Julia has an amazing voice. I could not recall the style she sings at - but it is distinct and quite pleasant to listen to. When my mother watched the clip she was amazed by the seemingly easiness witch which Julia takes the tones - and its hard for anyone not to notice that.

I will join your recommendation of it - its a must see for anyone found of the coming of age genre and the Canadian cinema in particular .

Dancing classes at 3...wow that`s an early start. But it has paid off - from what I see in the clips I have seen with Joseph dancing . If it was only possible to travel across the world and see all Billies in BETM ....

A great interview indeed - its amazing how intense the daily schedule of a young boy can become when he is involved in Entertainment . I am looking forwards to see Joseph on the big screen.

Spencer Susser - the director of Hesher worked on a short film titled "I Love Sarah Jane " . I have seen it about a year ago with a friend - but we both failed to make much of it. May be PhoenixEast will be interested in reviewing it - since it is a coming of age short and he seem to like to work or Spencer Susser ?

First love...Precious Memories....seriously PhoenixEast I can`t thank you enough for writing this review and making me discover me such a wonderful coming of age movie. I just saw it and when the final credits roll - I was ready to do standing ovations. Speaking of the film as a film I fully agree with you on your remark for the excellent directing - so much meaning hidden in the little things - just like in the real life.

And New York - I never managed to visit the city myself - but after seeing the film I feel like I have been shown its most wonderful face - the city felt like a character in the film. I loved and soundtrack too and boy Josh Hutcherson was amazing - he did such a wonderful portrayal of adolescent love and the feelings and confusions associated with it - I was blown away ....and felt like I was re - living my own first love experiences trough him - yes that`s what the good coming of age movies achieve.

I am also glad that the story had its twist that went along with the reality - as at one time I hoped that the whole experience would be blown away by a cliche ending - and am glad that I was proven wrong.

Like most people I also remember my first love - same age as the girl in the film as a matter of fact and trough our story was unique in its own way - I saw so much of it in this film. Eventually things became complicated ...and now ten or so years later "my "girl" still means as much for me as she did back then ( yeah you might call it pathetic ).

By the way I have seen the film`s cover back in time - but sometimes when I am not drawn to the cover instantly I skip the film and then forget about it - I must have missed quite a few great titles because of that - which only confirms that its never too late for one to learn.

I highly recommend the film. I loved it and am sure that any fan of the coming of age genre would love it as well.

Interesting perspective. I am not sure if the film would have included such a complex storytelling - but what you described seems pleasurable to me. Since Helsher evidently took the blame for most of the things T.J should of have felt like doing anyway or the fact that he did not intervene in the bathroom scene. But then...it would make sense in those scenes ....may be not in the scenes with the cashier or the final scenes.

I guess one could approach the director of the film with a question about that. Its an idea to keep in mind.

I do not question your choice of titles to present. Indeed these titles will be what the average person will associate with the 2011 releases of films in the coming of age genre. TheSkyKid.com is hands down the biggest media that focuses exclusively on coming of age films and as such I believe that the early awards have merit. When people vote they vote for their favorite actors and films - in the case of Noah Ringer he won partly because of his talent and partly because of the way his fans organized themselves .

Thanks for the comments. I believe that add a huge value to the site - by allowing readers to get yet another view point. A question - would you agree with me on my opinion of the lead personage in the film...may be you already provided an answer in your comment...yet to be sure I decided to ask.

To me the fact that Helsher moved into the boy`s home just like that and everyone acted like nothing too major happened is illogical and highly unlikely to happen in the real life ...that`s probably why the " yeah right " factor held for me for most of the film.

Devin Brochu of course delivered quite a performance comparable to the one of Robert Naylor in 10 1/2 http://www.theskykid.com/mo... and Harley Cross in http://www.theskykid.com/mo... .
