I'm DJing since 1991, I started on vinyl of course, bought my first pair of Technics in 1995, but I havent use vinyl for decades. I think I've seen and used almost every kind of DJ gear, and I guess I'm still a DJ ;)

sadly in these crazy days it's true.

however to be a DJ doesn't need producers skills and to be a good producer doesn't make anybody a good DJ. I've seen far too many 'one Beatport hit wonder' producers fail as DJs and I also seen great DJs being shitty producers.

in an ideal world these are two different roles.

fantastic, now they can roll out the bugfix for the Traktor DJ / AUDIO2 issue, which is there for 2,5 half months (and meanwhile there were TWO updates)

if someone is not familiar with the story here is a recap. Native Instruments' own iOS ready soundcard (AUDIO2 mkII) has no master signal on iOS8, there was no warning email about the issue and many users updated to iOS8. however the fun fact is that AUDIO2 is working with other apps on iOS8 (Cross DJ, djay2).

Native Instruments went silent about the case, and nothing is happening

I'm doing this for few years now (with Ableton and a Stanton SCS1m) but this sort of loops + live remixing set needs a special place and an special (open and educated crowd) and this is rare. the S8 to me is like a racecar, many people want one, some people have one, but only few people can drive it :)

this is a really interesting controller on paper. since Traktor Pro is full of bugs and errors it would be great to see it live and action.

BUT

this controller is simply not for everyone. this is for few specific music genres and for few specific artists. the majority of the DJs and clubs simply don't need this.

however I saw a lot of people mixing with APC40 on 2 channels in Ableton, just because that was the trendy unit back in the days. I bet 90% of the S8 owners will never use remix decks and the live remixing features, but they will buy the S8 to flash the expensive gear :)

let's clear something, Traktor DJ is the best DJ app on mobile devices, I'm the last one who will defend NI, but we have to mention the good things as well, besides of the bad ones. fair play.

I've played number of gigs with it, small ones, big ones, never had any issues so far.

and then iOS8 came...

NI's behaving is unacceptable, they make you buy a the adapter and the power supply and they are not responding when the bugs are coming out, but the worst part is the lack of fix for the existing issues when a new version is coming out. S2 and Z1 are also having issues (depending on different iOS versions and/or Audiobus) the app is not even opening for some users since the update.

the AUDIO2 + TDJ is a perfect combo and I can't understand why NI is ruining their good work with the lack of feedback and unfixed bugs

the new features are great, but until they don't fix the issues with AUDIO2 a lot of users can't even hear anything

the AUDIO2 does not work on iOS8 and this update is totally leaving this serious bug there
