One issue with longitudinal comparisons is that things have moved on especially if you have to compare apples to apples. Likely you will be comparing systems not only with different CPUs, but also different chipsets, different memory configurations etc.

Cloud is the way to go. Unless you want to build your own data centres which would imply that you have a lot of money. If that is the case, then you probably don't need Techradar at the moment.

Chromebook is Google's. Microsoft does Cloudbook. I think - and it is IMHO - that the writer misses the point. The laptops are cheap because, well, they're cheap. The vendors hardly make any money out of them (around $8 to $10 for a $200) so they want to cut corners where possible. Hence why they are cheap. If you want to buy a $200, I always advise people to pick up a second hand model from eBay with a 12-month warranty. A Lenovo ThinkPad, a Dell Latitude even 2nd generation Core i5 models will trample any of these $200 laptops.

I don't think that's difference to what the competition (Google) is doing at the moment. Do you think Google and Chrome OS do it differently? Apple is different as the bulk of their revenue comes from hardware and services. I don't recall how much money Bing makes but they have to proceed with care esp with Enterprise editions (you certainly don't want MoD PCs to start broadcasting data).

I don't think they sell user data collected on the OS to advertisers. Data collected via MSN or Bing is different though. I might be wrong and would happily bow to anyone who can prove me wrong.

"can". Not always. Same goes for consumer laptops. E.g. the Envy range or the high end Yoga range. Entry level business laptops, especially the HP ones, tend to be cheaper than the competition.
