A 19-year-old is likely being exploited by someone much older. If there were a responsible, loving parent or family member in that girl's life, this would not be happening. The Union-Leader published her arrest record, and her address is "homeless." She may be forced to do this in exchange for something as basic as a place to sleep and food. As a parent of teen daughters who'd be ill equipped to fend for themselves on their own, I'm appalled about the editorial choices to publish this girl's photo and information.

Salem elected the same failed local politicians who have never been able to get it done no matter the landscape in Concord. It was convenient to blame 2 sisters but it goes way beyond that. Salem voted almost exclusively in support of the one political party up and down the ballot whose platform specifies no casinos. Duh!

When a threat to public health becomes serious enough, New Hampshire law allows certain infringements on people's individual rights? That's news to me, given the lack of reaction by the state's public health, government and media leaders to the actual and longstanding public health threat of the proliferation of firearms in NH. My chance of being shot is FAR greater than catching Ebola.

Instead of blaming voters, maybe we should consider the utter lack of qualified candidates. My choices included an Elvis impersonator, a college kid, several octogenarians, and 2 sisters who still live with mom and pop. Not really worth leaving work early for, now is it?

Maybe SOME websites. Not ALL. I can call or email this gent today about this gun he put up in the classified section of Uncle Henry's. He's not required to run a background check on me if he's not an FFL (he doesn't say). He may ASK me to do one even if it's not required if he's the responsible sort, but it's against the law to "knowingly" transfer a gun to a prohibited person. No check means he didn't know. I did. He thinks criminals don't buy guns online suggesting if you buy from Cabela's, a FFL dealer, you have to prove you're not a criminal by having a background check. Why wouldn't someone buying from a dude on armslist.com be required to do the same?

Sorry for all the inconveniences to your everyday life buying guns. Expanding background checks will affect you because that means fewer criminals and terrorists will be able to buy guns outside MA borders and bring them back home to use in your community.

Background checks do work in stopping prohibited individuals from getting their hands on a gun via licensed dealers. This amendment would have expanded the requirement to transactions by non-dealers. I don't know a single soul who opposes checking out the person who wants to buy a gun to be sure he/she isn't a criminal or terrorist no matter what the source and I don't doubt that 91%.

school employees (and any others employed at any level of government) are getting all sorts of reductions, layoffs and decreases. That's called sequestration and you can also blame any Congressman in office over the last 2 years for letting it happen.

Oh get over yourself. I paid for and dug a well and septic myself. That in no way puts me off the grid. I can't dump chemicals and paint into my septic and leach field; not only will it poison me, it'll affect my neighbors' water, too. When an imbecile like this erects such an elaborate system to hoard 13 million gallons of rainwater, that's a resource he's diverting from the common watershed feeding all of his neighbors' wells and reservoirs. Do his rights to rainwater trump that of all the other neighbors in his community? For that matter, when corporations like USA Springs or Nestle buy up property in a town and drop a vacuum into the local water supply to bottle and export it out, Ken seems to be arguing that local residents whose own wells and public water supplies will be dried up have no right to complain.
