DHH is an idiot. i am glad more people are not defending him

for one thing, he needs to recognize that the open source community consists of an assortment of different kinds of people with various sensibilities. what might be cool or funny or edgy to one person might be offensive or crass to another. this is human nature. people have different tastes and thinking

i suppose DHH can just say fuck you to someone if he disagrees with someone over something...

... but he is depriving the rails and its development effort of the collective intelligence and expertise of the entire open source community, by offending certain groups of people and tacitly approving certain kinds of behavior that may turn some people off... which kind of defeats the whole point of open source in the first place :-/

i totally agree with farr here

i use rails too for web development, and i like it... but over time i've come to the conclusion that core rails team/community are immature idiots

i mean every time i see a rails page there is some mention of DHH being the creator of rails. i mean i know that already, but having that advertised at every opportunity you get smacks of shameless and blatant egotism

it's things like assigning rank to rails developers in order of importance, with you-know-who at the very top

i mean i've worked with various open source tools, and i have NEVER seen anything revolve so much around one person as rails has with DHH has... what a loser

two unrelated incidents?

one involved the unnecessary death of IRAQI bystanders, and the other involved the unnecessary death of AMERICAN bystanders. i suppose they're not related because the nationalities are different

FACT: public reaction was muted when news of SEVENTEEN iraqis being killed broke out

FACT: the public here is screaming over the deaths that happened when a jet crashed into a san diego home... what's more a lot of people are screaming over the fact that the pilot is being allowed to fly again

FACT: the pilot was given bad advice by his commanders. what was he supposed to do? disregard the advice he was given?

AS YOU LIKE TO SAY... walk a mile in his shoes - yet people are still screaming.. ANY loss of innocent life is regrettable. your and the public's hypocrisy is stunning

i really don't care if you were there or not. wearing that fact like some badge of honor isn't going to change my opinion... or the facts

blackwater caused a lot of heartache for iraqis... and everybody's eyes glaze over in boredom

fast forward to san diego, and a pilot crashes his plane into a couple of houses, and everybody screams!

it just goes to show you - an american life is worth more than an iraqi life

why do people like you always assume _all_ govt programs are wasteful?

some govt services should have been expanded a long time ago - like the SEC. they could have prevented the risk taking being done by firms like AIG that led to this mess, had they not been chronically underfunded and understaffed

it never ceases to amaze me how brainwashed people are when they keep repeating republican mantras like 'smaller government less spending blah blah blah'

be thankful the US is still in iraq... and spending money to keep its troops deployed there, and boosting troop presence in afghanistan

if the US cut back, more people (soldiers, contractors, suppliers) would be out of a job
