I don't know much at all about Pete's upbringing, but seem to recall he said something at PPP about not growing up in the church. Rob clearly did grow up in church.

This difference alone could account for quite a difference in perspective.

If the church (by which I mean the Body of Christ more than the institution) is to move toward Kingdom, both perspectives are needed.

Re: Jesus is the way: most Christians disagree

Agreed, but the context here in John 14 is not confrontational with listeners from other faiths, as the verse is often (pulled out of context) and quoted. I'm not denying Christian exclusivity; I'm challenging the attitude with which it is too often presented.

Re: Jesus is the way: most Christians disagree

Jesus' statement, "I am the way, the truth and the life..." was an answer to the disciples' wondering how they would know, not broad commentary on who won't "get to go."

When one's concern is over someone else's status before God, Jesus' response is love God with all your heart, mind, and strength and your neighbor as yourself. When one who has been following Him asks, as though that one's own fate is uncertain, Jesus reassured with the words we sometimes weaponize in John 14:6.
