I've tried it before - PointTV has acoustic recognition, in addition to visual recognition. The Wired article is pretty old.

Dude, I had the same thoughts as you when I first heard of it.

My first reaction was, no matter how poor one is in US, you would not be as poor as someone in a 3rd world country.

Someone in US would probably not ask for US$200 loan, since it will achieve nothing, as compared to US$200 to someone in Ukraine.

But if you watched Pursuit of Happyness by Will Smith, I guess when people think of the US, it's always the vision of a rich country etc.

And in the end, Kiva allows you to choose who you want to loan to. So, the choice is up to the lenders.

Here's a noob question.

There's been an increase of such service offerings around the world, but my question is, how would LBS work in indoor spaces of highly dense cities like Tokyo, Singapore etc, where malls are multi storeys, and sometimes underground.

GPS doesn't work indoors, wifi or cell tower triangulation isn't exactly accurate for a mall situation where a 10 meter radius would cover 10-30 shops.

Anyone?

Hi Aaron,

I was interviewed for a position at the IDM office a few months back and rejected the offer.

During the interview phase, some associates and bloggers / startups who knew of my interview, did talk to me about the work IDMPO does. No doubt, the vision is a commendable one, but there's this "wait for people to come apply" approach, I feel, could be revamped to a more inclusive / assimilated approach. No doubt, funds are being offered, but the local culture as such is very different from say, Valley entrepreuneurs.

I attended several events in Malaysia, StartupCamp KL, BarCamp KL / JB etc and I did notice that their agencies (IDMPO-type agencies) make the effort to meet entrepreneurs at ground level, mingling and sharing ideas, and discussing how best to make an application / what's needed etc. All in an informal setting.

No branding effort can equate to time and effort spent at social events to meet people, buy them a drink and just talk.

To be frank, I've never spoken to a single MDA / IDMPO staff outside of Fusionopolis or formal event envrionment. Where are you folks at BarCamp / BeerCamp / Social Media Breakfasts / Plurk events etc?

You are right that a true conversation is needed...

There are not many companies offering such services, but we do have a subsidary http://rpworkshop.com which will do more commercial work.

If you have an idea, we can create a prototype for you. If you have no CAD expertise, we can convert your sketch from 2D to 3D to physical object.

The best is multiple backups, never depend on just 1. Even something as simple as doing a file save, i always do a save as, in case i overwrite something i needed or the file gets corrupted. Btw, if you lose the easysafe key and use the backup key can they generate a new replacement key or you'll have to re-crypt with new set of keys i.e. buy new set?

try TrueCrypt, it converts your existing partition to an encrypted one, when your pc / notebook boots up, you need to enter password in DOS. So there's no way to access your data.
