It is my belief that if Trump tries to shut down the investigation Mueller can ask for a federal court for relief on the grounds of this being a national emergency until various issues are litigated out. Note also that Mueller's "work product" stands no matter Trump's efforts to muzzle him.

The news media flavor of the day is that Trump is losing support among even some Republican congressfolk and swing voters (white wimmins) who supported him in 2016.

Then there is the walk back from what constitutes prosecutable collusion.

"Look, I don't think that it's bad if campaigns are turning to foreign governments for dirt," fecklessly asserts Andrew McCarthy on Fox News, "It's not collusion. It's not something that's impeachable; it's icky, but that's what this is."

My gloom aside -- and Trump remains firmly in Vlad's pocket -- the tide is shifting. The Senate voted 98-0 on Thursday to ixnay Putin getting access to McFaul and other Yanks. A "safe" vote, to be sure, but a precursor to a Putin Stay Home resolution.

Wray and Coats are on the verge of bailing, Suckabee Handers is melting down. Kelly is eying the exits. More indictments are on the way.

Agreed about the debt. Good point, although that assertion somewhat contradicts this entry on my timeline while suggesting other possible sources of kompromat:

From 2006 on, according to a May 6, 2018 report in The Washington Post, Trump spent over $400 million in cash on various investments, often paying for new properties entirely on his own and 100 percent in cash. And another by Donald Jr. that "Russians make up a pretty disproportionate cross-section of a lot of our assets. . . . We see a lot of money pouring in from Russia."

I tend to agree, but where I get tripped up is that these extensive business ties have been hiding in plain view for years, and in some cases decades, so while Steele is correct, it's difficult to see how this is kompromat and something so widely known can be leveraged against Trump by the Kremlin.

I must strenuously disagree.

We can reasonably disagree about whether Trump can/will be impeached. But in uncharacteristically advocating sitting on our collective hands you have provided a recipe for letting Trump and his Deplorables succeed in all their awfulness.

I do not believe that there will be riots, but should that happen, so be it. We will get that much closer to lancing the national boil that much faster.
