I agree with a side note that traditional marketing in your local market is an added bonus as it will make your online efforts go further with 'social proof' providing a platform to become a local celebrity of sorts.

I constantly struggle trying to find the family/work balance. When I worked outside the home I worked long crazy hours and never got to see my kids. I walked away from that career to stay home with them so I could see them more and now I DO see them more, but the quality of that time is really lacking. I love my family and I love the business I'm in that affords me the choice to what I want/need to do with my day. Hopefully soon, I'll find that balance. I'll keep trying because my family is worth it. :)

Great questions Lauren! Here are my two cents, worth a half cent. lol

Q1: I'm not a fan of being tagged in photos by others. Besides, if It's my album, on my personal profile, it should almost be a 'duh' factor as to who the chick is in the photo! lol Unless of course, I'm wearing a costume or something, right? I actually have that as a setting that no one can see photo of me that others have tagged me in. You just never know what's being put other there. I've seen a successful marketer post photos and let everyone know that they are free to tag themselves if they wish.

Q2: I don't send friend requests to anyone unless
     a) they told/asked me to (i.e. webinar or personal IRL friends or someone I met at an event or you get the picture) or
     b) we have thing in common and it's nice to connect with other like minded people. (i.e. in the same group, fans of the same page and I notice that we 'click' - the might not think so and it's their choice not to accept my request) or
     c) they are some big guru that I'm following and I can't find their fan page.

And I almost always send a note, so they know where I found 'em and why I thought we should connect.

Q3: My fan page is pretty weak on interactions, but when people leave comments I respond or acknowledge.

Q4: No, unless the administrator has invited us to share our business. Even then I don't always because it can sometimes turn into a big 'ole spam fest and the message almost always gets lost. I understand what they are trying to do, but I don't think it's affective.

For me, I use SM as an extension of my real life, it may sound corny, but it works. :)

I cannot remember the last fiction book I have read. I think it was 'Can You Keep a Secret?' -- read it in about a day during down time on my two week annual training with guards - years ago. Fun times. A couple of fave books I have right now are 'The Referral of a Lifetime' and 'Crushit!'

I love the smell of books. Love it! I could spend all day in a book store - which is why I don't go often. lol If I hear of a book that is a must read or must buy, I'll check it out at the library first, using their online reserve system cuz then again, I could spend all day... If the book is good, I'll buy it or put it on my wish list.

Yes! Fortunately, for me, I came across another blogger's post similar to this and followed their advice and added the plugins, etc and now it's all on auto pilot once a week. I get an email with the file. Hopefully, I'll never have to use it.

Love this post Lauren! I have many friendships that started on FB or even Twitter and now we have a connectedness, a bond, that will forever remain. I have exchanged personal contact info home mailing addresses with a few. I've unexpectedly received cards or notes in the mail and I have also sent them. Sending and receiving cards/notes via old school snail mail just deepens the connection.

Tried implementing this a few months ago. Frustrated that I couldn't get it to work, I just deleted it. While I am a quick learner, I can't figure this out. I keep getting two errors that appear to say the same thing about two different components.

Great tutorial though Joshua, I learned a few things from the last time I tried this plug in. Was hoping that it would work this time though. :(

haha Youtube is soooo far out of my comfort zone, I guess I'll be one of the people hiding behind their computer all day. I uploaded a vid once and took it down cause I couldn't figure out how to edit it. I found it too much of a hassle and took way too much time to figure out. I'm not ignorant in the fact that video will have an impact on my business, but quite frankly, I hate the way I look and sound, so I don't think that is the impact I'm looking for. lol I think the biggest thing is I have no clue where to really begin. Yeah, I can shoot a video with my camera, but the editing process, forget it. I'd love to be able to to do how to's but there again, no idea what recording service to use and then there's that editing hurdle again.

FB simple. :) Always learning, but very simple.

Boundaries - I can be in the middle of something important, even very important and if I see a client calling in or an email pop up, I'm on it. To take care of it NOW, but then my FOCUS gets off track... Important can be something like me time or family time or making a deadline for a project. Doesn't matter.

Focus - pretty easy, but really, if I'm working on a project and usually during research for it or boredom of it, I can easily get distracted and 'move on' to something else. My biggest distraction is the internet and my thirst for information. If something catches my eye that I want more information about, right then and there, I'll go after it vs. making note of it or putting it on a list. If I'm bored or have it a road block, I'll find something else to do in hopes of re-energizing, but while that may seem like a good idea, I don't usually set any parameters when I take this 'mini break'. It usually takes way too long before I get back to it. Maybe I have ADD. lol

Authentic - as in stop wearing the faces that I believe people expect me to wear or be. Just be me. If they don't like it, too bad for them. I've never thought of myself as being fake or inconsiderate and it certainly isn't intentional. I'll blame my insecurities on my childhood; however, take responsibility for allowing it to cripple me for so long. A really good friend of mine gave me a book called "The Referral of a Lifetime" by Tim Templeton. In it, it was talked early on about not wearing masks and just being comfortable 'being you'. Not sure why THIS book allowed me to see the light or let the light bulb go off for me, but it did. One of lives biggest failures is trying to please everybody. 'Nuff said.

Oh my goodness momma! I don't know why I waited this long to click over here and read your article. I think cause in the back of my mind I already had an idea that you were writing about. I had no idea, until now, why you were gone so long. Yes, I was worried, very worried. I'm sooo glad you are back - you were missed.

While reading, I thought of the very best person to handle this for me, except, among all of my 'in real life' friends, none of them are as active in social media as me and am worried she might be overwhelmed... Thoughts on consolidation or priortization - I imagine, the most frequented to be updated, but would love to hear what you have to say.

Happy Thanksgiving again. ;)
