Why haven't the candidates spoken more about that socio-economic dynamic of our society. I will be entering college next year and I'm worried about the usual college woes: admissions, housing, and fitting in. Beyond that I am wondering what does McCain and Obama offer a future college student in the way of student financial help. Whether it be tax breaks for low income families with a student enrolled in college, special student loan help, or enforced standards for the loan industry to students.
I am not a member of DC schools but, take special interest in them due to my proximity. I would like to address the need for more innovative research in tools teachers can use to help children learn. The No Child Left Behind Act holds schools and teachers responsible, good. BUT, if our children are failing we shouldn't be punishing their school for that but rather providing them with more assistance to better educate them.
I also would like to say that standardized testing, which President George Bush made mandatory for every state, is lowering the bar on education. We set lower and lower standards to which our teachers are required to teach thus harming the overall purpose and goal of the education system. We need teacher that are motivated to teach student and HELP them grasp concepts and forward themselves. More should be done about the fact that our present system does NOT help pull up failing students, but rather push them down even further.
I ask all of you to think about the education system in America and how it is failing our kids, and our future. MAKE THIS AN ISSUE. It effects American economy, foreign policy, and every major section of debate. Put it front and center alongside healthcare, the economic woes, and the war on terror.
