Giving up on democracy? That is horrifying. People ought to try living under authouritarian rule, which is exactly what DT intends to do should he get back in the WH.

Then it would be too late.

We, the people, will no longer have a say or have a part in shaping the future as we envision our future to be. We will no longer be a free people.

We've never lived under oppressive rule. Imagine it before you vote bc it would become manifest if DT were to be back in the WH. He has said he will deploy the military to keep order.

And what of our future? DT, political movers & shakers & the wealthy will influence & shape the future as they see fit, not we, the people.

This & so much more is what we would lose if DT (or a R) were to get into office.

Those who say they have given up on democracy really, really need to seriously reevaluate this.

If you cherish our Constitution, the rule of law, The Bill of Rights & our right to vote; If you value diversity, equality & freedom, please understand that for their survival it is incumbent on us, the voters, to vote blue.

If you want a say in the future vote blue. Otherwise, our children & their children & future generations to come would be living in a world vastly different than today: a nation/world where an open & fair society no longer exists.

Keep these things in mind when you go to vote next November 2o24 bc this is not a race between Ds & Rs, It is whether our democracy & freedom survive.

Kari Lake wants to jump ahead of everyone else by not doing anything to gain experience. She was a news host. She has no political experience, no leadership experience. Nor has she served in government as a civil servant. Her only experience has been running for the governorship. Now after her failed campaign, she is running for an even higher position as a US Senator.

Kari Lake burned quite a few bridges while running for governor. She filed case after case claiming election fraud. Even after Lake & her attorneys were sanctioned, fined a couple thousand dollars, she filed again, at least 1 or 2 more times. Her problem was a lack of evidence.

Kari Lake is not really running for the US Senate, she fancies herself as DT's running mate & is competing with Marjorie Taylor Greene who also thinks she is on DT's short list.

It is not just the 2 of them, either. MAGA candidates overall seem to be competing for who can out-crazy all the others. This election cycle is going to be something else. Hang on, it is likely to get very ugly.

DT is trying every trick in the book to delay, delay, delay. He thinks if he can get all his trials delayed long enough (bc he is sure he is going to win) long enough for him to get into the WH first, he can then just pardon himself & voila they disappear. Of course, DT knows that if he is convicted in any of the 4 trials, then his path to the WH is pretty much a nonstarter.

His plans, should he get back in the WH, are seriously anti-democratic, anti-rule of law (for himself), anti-Constitution & anti-Bill of Rights. Remember, DT, after he lost the election, said publicly he wanted to & might suspend the Constitution.

Moreover, pardoning himself is only the beginning. He will appoint himself as the judge, jury & executioner; He already said so in so many wortds. And he will declare himself President for life.

Another problem is 7 of the 8 Rs (out of the 148 Rs) voted to overturn the election. The 7 are as follows: Bergman, Donalds, Hern, Johnson, Palmer, Scott & Sessions. Emmers is the 8th candidate, who some people say he did vote to overturn & others say he did not. So, there is a chance someone who voted to overturn the 2o2o election might be the next House Speaker - in other words, an equivalent to Jim Jordan?

Long ago, Trump established a pattern of using attacks, threats combined with either exaggerations &/or lies especially to intimidate prosecutors, witnesses & anyone else who could help the prosecution make their case against him. He did likewise to anyone who got in his way of pursuing something he wanted.

Deceit & distraction are Trump's modus operandi. He plays the victim & the bully simultaneously. Donald Trump has ruined reputations & shattered lives. Without any qualms, he threw an old lady out of her home that she had lived in her entire life, just so he could build a parking lot.

The reason Trump continues is because he has never ever been punished or held responsible or accountable for his actions, wrong doing & crimes. Nor has he ever given one whit about the people whose lives he shattered, for the people who had to bear the brunt of his ire, & the people who were caught in the repercussions as a result from his actions & words.

While Trump has never experienced it himself, he will soon enough.

Obviously, given the amount of time that has passed since Trump left office & based on the fact that he has never been held accountable in his entire life, it is hardly any wonder why people are beginning to think that once again Trump will escape accountability.

Add in too that everything has been moving at the speed of molasses makes it seem even worse as the evidence continues to pile up.

However, this is exactly how prosecutors build their cases as they climb slowly but surely up the ladder to convict those at the top, too.

Note Navarro, who is believed to be a flight risk, I believe, is in custody pending trial & Bannon's trial begins this week or next?

So don't blame the messenger. They are just as anxious as the rest of us.

A lot of people will be held accountable, including Donald Trump.

We have entered an era where ignorance, disinformation & lies reign supreme.

Decisions made by the far right hardliner ideologue justices are based on what they hear on Fox News or other far right sources as well as the lawyers whose arguments are seeped in disinformation.

Gorsuch stated that executive agencies have" no power." That is untrue but he aims to make it so.

Alito asked, 'what is the big deal of issuing a stay stopping OSHA while the Court considers this complicated issue?' on the very same day (24 hours) more than 1 million people had been infected with Covid-19 & the death count continues inching closer to 1 million since the pandemic began.

Note:

When the Justices ruled to block OSHA it was the absolute height of hypocrisy given they have their own vaccine & mask mandates: everyone entering the Supreme Court building must show proof of vaccination & wear a mask.

Protecting their own health & well being, but not the public's not only shows how calloused they are, but furthering their ideology takes priority over all else.

Regulations, as we all know, were put in place to protect & keep the public safe from harm - workers, consumers, every man, women & child in America. Yet the Justices tied President Biden's hands to stop the spread of this highly transmissible deadly disease, because dismantling OSHA from carrying out its statutory mission to keep the workforce safe, was top priority. After all, it has been a decades long desire of all 6 hardliner far right ideologue Justices, not just Alito & Gorsuch, to do so. They were too impatient to wait for another opportunity when it would not be so obvious during a raging pandemic!

Furthermore, it is deeply unsettling that the Supreme Court is in the hands of far-right hardliner ideologues who are also being influenced by powerful R operatives to dismantle our democracy!

One last thing, Clarence Thomas said he wanted to review the law that says if you cannot afford an attorney, the court will appoint one for you.

It is instructive to note that the Justices' review of federal laws is costing us democracy itself.

There are a number of different "Christian" religious leaders who are anxious to change every aspect of how Americans are governed. Putting women, in particular, in their place is high on the agenda: Meaning uneducated, barefooted & pregnant in the kitchen. And it is not just the far right white evangelical Christians, there are other "religious" extremist groups that have been operating below the radar. Together they present a serious danger to our democracy.

While they have been patiently, slowly incrementally implementing their agenda for decades, they have grown restless & impatient.

One group known as Dominionists, far-right hardliner extremists, have long-term plans for America, cruel & undemocratic that go against everything our nation was founded on.

Abortion is just the tip of the iceberg. After or if they can successfully get abortion banned, birth control is next. But they will not make too big an issue of it now, bc their plans would be ruined. Dominionists & the others do not stop there, either.

Ultimately, tho, what Dominionists plan to force on the American citizenry is biblical law. Yes including stoning a person to death & all else included in the Bible, no matter how uncivilized & barbaric the act may be. If it is in the Bible it is law of the land. That is if they eventually succeed.

Far right so-called religious leaders are teaching & encouraging their flocks to become anti-democracy, anti-equality, anti-liberty, anti-social justice, anti-Constitution, anti-American, anti-charity, anti-science, anti-education, etc. by filling the minds of their congregants, non-the-wiser, with political lies & propaganda.

When pastors, preachers, priests claim the Bible is literally "God's word," perhaps someone should ask, which Bible & which version do they believe is literally "God's word."

Your post fails to address what the authour laid-out in his argument. Apparently, you did not read it.

First: your defense of the new laws is really shallow given your failure to actually consider the impact they will have on certain voters. For instance, you left out the fact that several states, including Texas & IIRC Georgia's new voting laws require voters who are just requestingan application to vote by mail to include a photo with their mail-in ballot application, as well include a photo with their actual voter ballot.

That alone places a hardship on low income voters as well as disabled voters, students, senior citizens, who would have to spend money to get a photo & copies made is still an expense many can ill afford not to mention inconvenient.

And do not forget that since DeJoy took over the USPS, mail takes days longer to arrive. When you think about the time it takes to:

request an application for a Vote by mail ballot

-wait for it to arrive

- fill it out
- send it back w a photo

- wait for approval

- then wait again until the ballot arrives
- fill that in

- & again mail it back with another photo all within 11 weeks time frame,
which is not all that long time, plus it is inconvenient.

Insofar as drop-off boxes, no they are not just a pandemic-era creation. Do you know how big Atlanta is & the length of time it would take just to drive to a drop-off box. Lets not forget there are 1000s of people who do not drive nor have access to transportation, such as students, retired senior home residents, disabled, etc. That is not just inconvenient it will disenfranchise those voters. In Texas, a study was done & they found more than 100,000 voters would be disenfranchised.

Those are just 3 examples that do even touch on all the R new laws, let alone get to the authour's argument about gerrymandering & the new changes to election laws that go "beyond voter disenfranchisement."

Moreover, there is no evidence of widespread fraud. Even if there had been,which there wasn't, not one of their new laws do anything whatsoever to address fraud.

In a healthy democracy voters do not have to jump thru hoops just to vote. But none of that will matter if the R plan is successful. Read the article to understand why. Perhaps then you will rethink the issue.

Otherwise, Surf Ski, you are defending the indefensible.

In other words, what Lindsey Graham is saying is: 'you do it our way 110% or take the highway.' Rs will not & do not compromise. Worse, even if President Biden & the Ds were to agree to their demands, the Rs would still turn around & vote no anyhow when the bill comes up for a vote.

Rs did this during Obama's presidency. The first time was after watering down the stimulus bill many Rs either voted no or (IIRC) did not vote at all. Never mind the economy was on a downward trajectory about to spin out of control.

Rs did likewise with the ACA. After getting their poison pill amendments added to the bill, every single R voted no. Nevermind the fact that the insurance mandate was a Heritage Institute creation & the bill itself was modeled in a similar fashion to Mitt Romney's healthcare plan when he was a governor.

President Biden & the Ds learned the hard way not to trust Rs today, even tho they still make overtures to the GOP. So they are unlikely to make that same mistake again. After all

they passed the stimulus/relief bills without 1 single R.

However, it is deeply disturbing & alarming that Manchin does not seem to recognize the fact that state R legislators are not just suppressing vote with their new laws, they are changing the actual voting system to make it easier for them (the politicians) to overturn any outcome they do not like. In other words they are usurping the powers that belong to local election officials & the Scty of State.

Unless Manchin & Sinema come around, the R goal of a permanent 1-party majority may come to pass marking the end of our Constitution, our democracy & the rule of law.

Like Donald Trump, Ted Cruz lies like there is no tomorrow! He lies about trivial things to vastly important events. He is just as underhanded & untrustworthy as Trump, though a bit smarter.

I know this because years ago after Cruz won his first election to the US Senate - before Trump was even thinking of running for president - somehow my email got added to his "newsletter" email list. His so-called newsletter was anything but by any definition - a newsletter.

It was a conglomeration of made-up BS, lies & falsehoods.

During a debate between Beto O'Rourke & Ted Cruz, Cruz filibustered the debate as much as possible lobbing false accusation after false accusation after false accusation against Beto - all lies - whether it was Cruz's turn to speak or not - he would not shut up. Nor would he quit lying.

Altho they both knowingly & deliberately lie, there is a small difference between Trump & Cruz:

Trump knows he is lying but he seems to convince himself it is the truth even when he does a 180 turn in the very next sentence.

Cruz, on the other hand, takes lying to a new level. He does not lie off the cuff like Trump nor do a 180 in mid-sentence. No Ted's lies are thought out & rehearsed like his debate performance, better described as political theatre.

Biggs was there, he knows that a noose had been erected outside the Capitol building as well as a couple of improvised explosive devices were discovered next to the building & one insurrectionist had 11 Molotov cocktails in his possession.

Furthermore, one report did say some of the suspects were armed with guns, & of course, knives & other weapons. But you do not need a gun to kill someone. Five people lost their lives including at least 3 or 4 policemen along with another approximately 147+ Capitol police were seriously injured - including 1 who lost his eye - many others have PTSD. Later 2 cops committed suicide.

Biggs & his R buddies will not stop lying because they have not had to pay a political price for it. Until & unless that happens it is BAU.

It is typical for Rs to name the bill "Election Integrity" when in actuality it does just the opposite. Equally important is that the provisions are nothing short of appallingly anti-democratic. Nor is there much, if anything, remotely close that maintains the integrity of the election process, let alone prevent fraud. In fact, it is more the opposite.

For instance, one especially egregious provision is R lawmakers could claim fraud in a court of law, without having to show evidence or proof that fraud had actually altered the outcome of a race - but that enough ballots were "illegally" cast that made a difference in the outcome of the election & a Texas state judge would have the power to overturn the election, irrespective of what the voters wanted.

Furthermore, Rs would remove local election officials’ decision-making powers. They would no longer be allowed to mail VBM applications let alone even "suggest" to anyone they could elect to vote by mail. unless it is requested otherwise an official could face criminal charges.

There is no integrity in making it more difficult for certain voters to cast ballots by shortening the hours to vote, including Sundays - when African-American churches bus their members to the polls - known as “Souls to the Polls Day”.

There is certainly nothing democratic in claiming - without proof - that a certain number of ballots were cast illegally on say-so alone to get a judge to overturn the election results.

Nor is anything in their bill to prevent fraud! (that was already passed into law years ago.)

There is nothing in the R bill that would give voters confidence in future elections.

What their bill accomplishes is twofold: making it harder for people to vote & assuring their R voters of a likely R majority - that is if their measures stand up in a court of law.).

This is a ruse. Rs are cheating by using Trump's Big Lie to 'justify the unjustifiable.'

Others like

- Marco Rubio (R-Fla)
- Lindsey Graham (R-SC),

Granted these are not all by any means, but a majority of the aforementioned know better, but are perpetuating Trump's lies to appeal to MAGAs. All of these politicians need to be held accountable for selling out the country for their own political gain.

And then there are R governors & R state legislators who are proving their fealty to party over country & fealty to Trump first & foremost. They have introduced & already passed some of the 253 suppression voter laws that rival the Jim Crow era, ensuring the R Party presidential nominee & R candidates have the advantage.

It is more than troubling a significant number of state R lawmakers actually seem to believe Trump's lies & others are knowingly using lies & conspiracy theories as justification to pass laws to give Rs the upper hand.

One law, in particular, is especially onerous & more than likely illegal: a new Arizona law gives state legislators the authourity to overrule the SoS (before? s/he certifies the election results) - contrary to its constitution.

In other words it allows lawmakers to overturn the results of any election they do not like. I presume most, if not all, MAGAs & other far right R hardliners support it..

So good luck trying to weed out the crazies. Rs opened Pandora's box & now they cannot shut it. The GOP overplayed its hand.

FYI: Actually a couple or more comprehensive chronicled lists do exist: google "fact check" Washington Post & either Reuters or the AP, I believe the NYT, too has a list.

At any rate the last time I checked, Trump had piled up close to 3000+ "false statements" since taking office.

By some estimates Trump now averages 20 lies a day! In the beginning it was in the low single digits, but as time has passed, Trump increasingly told more lies practically each & every day.

The moment Rs handed Trump the keys to the RNC by partnering with his campaign is the moment the Party lost complete control over all their operations & assets, including the massive amount of data they collected over the years on the American people.

Trump will not give up his control over the party, let alone the RNC - not until he has grown bored with it or needs money. Plus he has leverage to exact whatever hefty price he wants. He will charge the Party out of the wazoo,

Furthermore, when it is no longer useful to him, Trump will sell the data to the highest bidder. It is worth its weight in gold given the amount of info (more than what most firms collect) on millions upon millions - 100s of millions - of individuals. In addition, thanks to Cambridge Analytica ,each file contains the individual's psychological profile, too.

That means every person is jeopardized a very vulnerable position. No one should ever have access to one's psychological profile. First because it is so easily weaponized & can be used against them. And 2, it can also be used to manipulate individuals or groups of individuals.

Take for instance, Trump used it to target & convince HRC supporters (mainly African Americans) to stay home in 2o16. This year he targeted Latinos & Hispanics with an intense disinformation campaign that played on their fears. It worked! Trump increased his share of the Hispanic/Latino electorate. And Trump is planning on running again in 2o24.

With loans totaling between a half billion & a billion dollars or more soon due, Trump will be desperate for cash. Once he figures out - if he hasn't already - that he is sitting on a goldmine Trump will sell it to the highest bidder in a NY second. Of course he will keep all the originals for himself & sell copies.

Now, imagine the buyer being a foreign adversary, such as Putin/FSB (KGB) having in their possession your personal info & your psychological profile.....

Enough said, the rest is self-explanatory.

According to a Michigan investigative reporter, Kayla Ruble, after the 2 Rs finally joined the 2 Ds to certify the results for Wayne County, Vice Chair Kinloch introduced a 2nd amendment waiving reconsideration. In other words the board cannot revisit the issue. It is a done deal, he said.

Kinloch had the foresight to add it because he knew the Rs would come under pressure.

Notably Wayne County's (Detroit) population is nearly 80% Black - 94% of whom voted for Joe Biden.

Biden won Michigan by 148,000 more votes than Trump.

Moreover, according to Ari Berman, the cities where the Trump campaign is trying to get votes thrown out include:

* Detroit: 78% Black - 94% voted for Joe Biden
* Milwaukee & Madison (Dane County): 74% Black - 79% voted for Biden
* Philadelphia: 44% Black - 81% voted for Biden

There are no 2 ways about it: disenfranchising the Black voters is a "modern Jim Crow effort" by Trump & R lawmakers.

I did not bother to watch the Town Hall (I read the transcript) because Trump has his stock answers & is unlikely to stray off script. Every single answer Trump gave was chock full of lies & mischaracterizations. That is unacceptable.

Plus the networks treat Trump as if he is a typical serious candidate, without calling him out on his lies right then & there. A fact check after the event is too late. Trump needs to be called out each & every time he lies to the nation. While the point of such is not to get Trump to admit it, or answer truthfully, educating the audience members by supplying them with the facts is the point.

If the media are not willing to do that, then Trump really should be denied face time on national TV. Enough of his lies already!

We. the voters, must show-up en masse come 3 November. No matter what you are doing, all eligible voters must cast a ballot via mail or in-person. It is the only way we will ever be able to hold Trump accountable.

Each poll, as most of us know, is just a snapshot in time. Weekly, monthly polling trends, however, show the direction public opinion is moving & what, if any, changes might have taken place.

Biden's polling numbers, for instance, have steadily been climbing upwards. In late March, Biden had on average a 2 point lead- a statistical tie. Now Trump trails Biden by low double digits. Not once has Biden lost his lead.

What that tells us is Trump is likely to lose his reelection. Deservedly so.

Trump's biggest problem is not dealing with or even trying to contain the pandemic. Nearly 6m Americans have been infected with covid19 & another more than 180,555 have died according to world-o-meter. These are unacceptable not to mention shocking numbers.

Furthermore in states where Trump "won" by double digits in 2o16, he now has single to low digit digit leads in Missouri, Louisiana, Alaska, Mississippi & South Carolina. Red states like Texas Trump is trailing Biden by a point or two. Biden is winning Arizona & is ahead in North Carolina & possibly Georgia.

The polling has been consistent among reputable pollsters - tho there have been a couple of outlier polls here & there - on the most part the polling is solid.

However, it bears repeating: poll numbers are not votes.

So Vote.

Because what is at stake is our democracy, the rule of law, the Constitution, everyone's health & well being & even life itself. Vote to preserve American values, equality & social justice, for a fair & open society.

Vote for your children. Your children's future is America's future.

Vote as if your life depends on it, because it does.

In the most recent Texas Tribune poll Trump trails Biden by 2 points - an increase of 1 percentage point.

While Texas is prohibitively expensive to advertise in, by the same token there are some factors that Biden's campaign ought to consider before deciding to blow off Texas:

Quinnipiac:

Overall Abbott's job approval is 48% approve & 44% disapprove. That is a 20 point swing from early June.

47% Texans approve of how Abbott has handled the covid19 response whereas 48% disapprove, that is a 21 point swing in net approval from early June when 56% approved & 36% disapproved.

Trump's overall approval in Texas is underwater 6 points (45% to 51%). Similarly his response to covid19 is underwater by 7 points( 45% to 52%). Early June it was 4 points under-water (47% to 51%)

If both Trump's & Abbott's numbers continue on a downward trajectory ... Biden has a shot.

In addition to the polling, there has been an increase of an est 2m new voters registrations over the past few years - many of whom are Ds from California.

So I wouldn't write off Texas, at least not yet.
