This network continues to provide live service today. Google. 2. Users of Android handsets

iMessage on Apple devices is stunningly simple to use and in incredibly powerful. It is one of the few reasons that my primary device is *still* an iPhone - as the importance of inter-personal text messaging is enormous to me. The ability to see that the target of my intended message is online and that the message has been delivered successfully, then read - is essential - and is something that legacy SMS just cannot deliver.

Re: John Sculley’s Obi Worldphone MV1 is on the way

Looking forward to your review of how you (as a battle hardened iPhone user) adapt to using this device....

Re: Truphone Labs

That is a really good summary of the high points at Kamailio World. Other interesting elements included:

- Analysis by the Simwood (Wholesale SIP Trunk Provider) of the results gathered from their 'Honeypot', which has been collecting data on attempted intrusions from ever more sophisticated hackers

- A couple of teams who have implemented an IMS Core upon Kamailio. One of these is launching as the core for an LTE (4G) offering in Nigeria

- The 'Rolls Royce' of the Analog Telephone Adapter (ATA) World, from Obi Hai (previously Sipura/ Cisco Linksys) - now refocused as a highly flexible client device aimed at ITSPs

The whole experience was brilliant. The Jitsi Team were delighted with their 'Dangerous Demo' Award - and yesterday posted a video of the first test flights of their 'Prize That Flies' - with the ever radiant Yana at the controls. (Apparently she us just as good with a soldering iron as she is cutting code!)

Re: Jo performing live on BBC World Service on 10th January 2012

I was present in the audience and was blown away by the experience.

The est momet of the performance was te expression on Jo's face after performing the second song!

Re: 888 is the country code for UN disaster relief

I am guessing that SkypeOut calls to +888 numbers will be tariff-free?

What about calls to +883 iNum numbers?

Re: A home phone line powered by Skype and ready for prime time!

Hudson wrote:

'So there you have it. A home phone line with a local number and unlimited outbound calling that rings on multiple "extensions" both in your house and when you are on the road, all for a cost of $60 per year. Can’t beat it.'

How about a home line with a local number and unlimited outbound calling that does all the stuff that your solution offers, yet costs USD ZERO ?

An interesting post - but completely misses out Google Voice as an option (in addition to a raft of other players). I currently run a configuration that allows me to make and receive calls using Google Voice from fixed line phones, soft clients and cellular devices - and all without any incremental monthly charges.

Calls in on my US (San Francisco) number and out to US numbers are untariffed, and calls to other international destinations are at competitive rates that beat Skype Out rates. Included in the 'deal' is the Google Voice Voicemail, which includes voice to text - not perfect, but good enough to 'gist' the message.

I can also send and receive SMS Text messages to/from my GV number - all for no incremental cost.

So - perhaps I should write an article some time....

Oh - and some time I can explain my solutions for dealing with Skype calls (in and out) of my home PBX!

Re: The Original Mobile Industry Review Video Podcast

Excellent job!

What did you shoot it with - the quality (video and sound) is outstanding!

The 'invasion of the Northern Normobs' was brilliant - it would be good to do more 'Joe in th Street' stuff. The look of fear on Ben's face was a gem - and the way Dan handled the interlopers was masterful.

Would you consider distribution via iTunes (so that I can get SMS Text News video podcast on my iPhone with minimal effort)?

Re: Vehicle registration text service goes live in UK

Classic start-up / critical mass dilemma here. Have you any examples or experiences of carriers blocking call through services? If so, what numbering/tariffs are the call through services using?

Re: Vodafone Update: Talked to Lee from the FIT

Ewan - you are truly a 'man of many phones'! But one could ask the question "If you have a H3G phone with access to unlimited HSDPA based data for incredibly low prices, why would you want to sign up for a hugely expensive Voda contract for data?" I would guess that local coverage may be one deciding issue?

Re: 3UK data ‘fair use’ policy problem

I recieved 3 warning SMS - called 3 CS (in India).

Summary - it would appear that 3 are attempting to deploy a system to police the Acceptable Use Policy on data - I wondered how long I could get away with averaging over 5Gb per month for the princely sum of GBP 5!

This system is clearly not quite operational yet - but be prepared for it to kick in as soon as H3G get their act together.

At least it would appear that they are doing the gentlemanly thing and warning users about potential AUP incursions before turning off the service or even worse (in a Vodalike manner) just whacking users with a HUGE data bill for the overage!

Re: Vodafone Update: Talked to Lee from the FIT

As you have just posted a demo of H3G data and portal - does this mean that you are now a 3UK customer?

Re: Truphone v4.0 adds ‘Truphone Anywhere’

Hey Steve - why don't you try it - and report back?

The UK call through numbers are normal geographic (01xxx/02xxx) numbers and so will not cost a fortune or be excluded from your inclusive bundles.
