Time is a framework for relationships."

In my understanding, the above is exactly what many scientists / philosophers are claiming is not valid. I believe they say time is actually a thing / substance ... same as space (or say something of the sort). Saying that "Time is a framework for relationship" and "Space is a framework for relationships" are both true (or false) in the same way .. depending what you mean by the clause.

Anyways, apologies for "putting things in your mouth" re: God limited by time. Not what I meant to do. Probably better to say that "God's relationship to Time may be similar to any other creatures he has created". Personally , I've been partial to the open view ever since Pinnock's Most Moved Mover .. at least from a scriptural & theological perspective (for many of the reasons stated elsewhere). However, from a scientific perspective - give the universe as we currently understand it - I am having difficulty reconciling the open view.

Re: An Example of Unwarranted Theological Speculation: Divine Timelessness

Would love someone to address the points above. I really have no problem with an "open view" of God from a theological or scriptural perspective. But given that time is simply one component of creation (maybe created at the Big Bang ... or our instantiation of time created in our own universe's Big Bang), how can we possibly understand God to be limited by time (except the Incarnation of course)?

Re: buy The Evolution of Adam *dirt* cheap (get it?)

..... and it was very good. Not sure you follow Peter Enns blog, but his post here on the start of
his "Testimonials" series is relevant. Here is commenting on a conversation between two Evangelical Theologians:

It seems another member of the faculty, an Old Testament scholar (whom I wish to say, even though I am not mentioning names, is a truly wonderful Christian gentleman) remarked at one point that “Enns really isn’t saying anything new here.” The specific point concerned the state of Hebrew in the 2nd millennium BC, and how no one living at that time (i.e., Moses) could have written the Pentateuch as we know it, as it reflects a state of Hebrew that did not develop until the 1st millennium.

The theologian remarked, “Nothing new? Then why haven’t I heard of any of this before?” (Keep in mind, this is a seminary faculty member, who has both an MDiv and PhD.) The OT scholar responded, “It is our job to protect you from this sort of thing” (and I will admit this is a paraphrase, albeit a nearly verbatim and fully faithful representation).

I&I is founded on the opposite notion, that people deserve better than this.

And that is part of your answer I think; our Evangelical culture has in someways taught us NOT to think for ourselves (eg. Mark Noll's The Scandal of the Evangelical Mind).

But fortunately, people like Enns etc. are changing that.
