Our closest living "natural" primate relatives are nasty pieces of work and we seem to share a lot of the same character flaws. It is our ability to interrupt natural law in order to love that makes us human.

Re: Chaput's Gross Injustice and Glimmers of Conscience for Catholics of the Center

Bottom line is that AB Chaput tossed two little girls out of school. I don't care how he tries to pretty it up - it's not right or just or Christian.

Re: Techno-Files, Or Why I Learned To Hate the Coast

Brad,
Kinda. I've lived in this small central PA town for 30 years (historical
distinction -only northern town burnt to the ground in the civil war) but
I'm still not a native. You know how that is. Maybe my grandkids will be. But
my wife's kin have been infesting these hills for 300 years. People and their
kids tend to stay here. It's one of the things I like about living here. People
seem more invested in the community. But I wouldn't be too hard on Gill.
For one thing, maybe 3 people in town read Vanity Fair, and for another,
someone's always making fun of someone else. For us, it's the hillbillies
one county west.

Re: Techno-Files, Or Why I Learned To Hate the Coast

I don't think this guy would know a Mennonite from a mudshark but his take on the museum itself was pretty accurate. And funny. But, you're right, rural ain't necessarily slow but having the "elites" think that can sometimes work to your advantage.

Re: Palin and Cheney Emerge as GOP MVPs

"Given such statements, is it any wonder that many of the sick and elderly are concerned that the Democrats’ proposals will ultimately lead to rationing of their health care by—dare I say it—death panels?"
So the party that fought tooth and nail against Medicare for the last 40 years is now its BFF? A lot about keeping benefits for seniors and nothing about paying for it. The government is on the hook for the elderly and disabled and private insurers get the working and the healthy. That is unfair to the taypayer and amounts to an unwarranted subsidy to private insurance. The answer is single payer through Medicare for everyone. When private insurers write affordable policies for those over 65 I'll listen to former Gov. Palin and the rest of the inconsistent right. Until then, it's just more noise.
