Mark McCormick is absolutely correct. One of these days one of these shamefully dangerous viaducts (and they're ALL OVER the place) is going to crumble with a trainful of passengers on it and the Mayor and council members will begin an investigation into why it broke, starting with, "Well, we put a coat of paint on it. How dare it fall down?"

I used to think Daley the Latter should have been renamed "Mayor Flowerpot" because he preferred tulips on Michigan Ave to cement for train viaducts. But I guess we'll now have to make Rahm "Mayor Tiny Flitting Dancer" because of his refusal to see the danger in front of his eyes while pirouetting and toe stepping blithely away.

Mark my words. The day will come.

I've always thought it would behoove our doddering relic of a country to hire Mr. Jobs to inspire, innovate, communicate and simplify our lives. We'd be long gone from Afghanistan and the rest of the trouble spots we interject ourselves into. They're insane, but NOT insanely great.

They're complicated. Simple: GET OUT NOW!

RIP Steve – maybe we'll learn how to apply Jobsian principles to other areas of our life as we mourn your passing and contemplate your genius.

It was once said of Walter Reuther that he "reminisced about the future." That's what Steve Jobs does, too. For Steve and the rarefied circle of like-minded geniuses, 2021 has come and gone. These suggestions are so banal as to prove the point that most "ordinary" business executives pride themselves on their ability to predict the past.

These suggestions are typical of all the carping done about Apple by mediocre minds pretending to be Reuther and Jobs' equals.

As Gary Pageau says, these suggestions are petty gripes in the guise of faux superiority.

Leave Apple alone until you can come up with something that nobody in the world has ever really though of, would deny any desire for it and then make billions in an entirely new market. When you're able to do that, you won't need to write pontificating columns.

And I, personally, don't think Apple needs your advice to survive: their rare few mistakes are easily covered by the interest generated by their cash.

For what it's worth, I was the first reporter from Iowa to interview Dr. Borlaug in Mexico after he won the Nobel Prize and he, nice gentle man that he was, never forgot on other occasions when we met. I have slides, prints and a movie to prove it.

By the way, it just occurred to me that I'm a HELL of a lot more interested in what Steve Jobs has to say this afternoon than what Obama has to say tonight.

Steve would deal with healthcare by starting with a clean slate. The rest of the world is using bailing twine and barbed wire to fix an irreparably broken system which will be worse AFTER the fix than before.

Remember: "Any organization or system that's reconfigured for the sake of efficiency, effectiveness and/or greater cost savings/profits is IMMEDIATELY indistinguishable from its predecessor."

Seems to me that this is EXACTLY the sort of HORRIFIC image Americans must see in order to realize that there are TWO of these stupid, inane, unnecessary wars going on.

Since the abolition of the draft, Americans have NO personal contact with the wars Bush and Obama have and are waging -- support our troops magnetized ribbons on gas guzzling SUVs nothwithstanding.

I love the chart. Well, I mean, I love how it accurately depicts the mess we're in today. What YOU need to do Dr. Dewd is get out Keynote and make a chart that shows YOU (forget medicare, VA, Railroad, military distinctions)-> Doctor/Hospital/Provider -> bill sent to Unca Sam -> bill paid
-> patient alive and well.

Contrast those costs with equivalent number of bombers not built, Star Wars Systems not implemented, inestimable costs of American, Brit, Iraqi, Afghani lives lost in stupid wars, number of pro footballer salaries, Bernie Madoff's scam, AIG bonuses, cost of bailing out detroit and the banks, cost of one senate race funded by big pharma, hospital, docs.; net worth of one of those bimbo hollywood darlings who don't have brains enough not to show their nether regions in public, etc., etc., etc.

Ask Steve Jobs to help. He's the BEST ever with simplification.
