But I suppose the big question is is whether his predicted outcome (polarized distribution fo wealth) is inevitable? Which of course begs the question of why is that the outcome.
Cheers, SC

Re: Free mobile phone barcode apps | Barcode.com

It's great to see the mobile phone barcode app market expanding, and getting coverage. You might be interested in our own barcode scanning mobile phone app: RecallCheck. RecallCheck allows a consumer to scan a barcode and determine if the item scanned has been recalled by the FDA. You can see details at http://www.agorasys.com/pro.... The app isn't free, but it's inexpensive. A somewhat dreadful thing that is stil around. Sort of like "spam". So "social media marketing" doesn't surprise me, or even scare me.

I have to admit that I don't think about "social media marketing" or even "web marketing" -- I think about marketing. Which to me is communication about the utility, price and availability of a product. I do think that in practice marketing communication is a story, and is like a conversation. I've noticed not everybody is in agreement about the "conversation" part. But I suppose that is a post for another day.

Best Wishes,
Scott Charles
PlumbBob Market Research

Re: Mobile couponing goes mainstream

Sarah: thanks for a very well done article. I enjoy (and respect!) the depth of coverage (i.e., data, quotes). I do think barcode technology implemented via mobile phones is a step forward for consumers and vendors.

For the vendor, being able to track ad campaign effectiveness is incredible; for the consumer being able to scan a barcode and apply discounts, or check for information (e.g., price compares, recall information, safety information) is a big win.

Thanks again.

Best Wishes,
Scott Charles
PlumbBob Research
http://www.plumbbobresearch...
