But we work hard to be great parents to Marshall, and we strive to be a positive force for good in the world.

I look at the photos, and I see how close we are as a family through them, and I don't worry so much. Just today we were out in Darling Harbour and all laughing and running around having an amazing time. We all have so much fun together, and that is what I love about The Tiny Sartorialist.

That we capture those moments of fun and can share them with other people is really special.

Re: Join me in blogging every day of March

You may well have already seen it, but in case you haven't, here's post #1: http://t.co/dvZwbN2p

Re: Join me in blogging every day of March

Well I guess it would be rude of me not to

Re: http://scottdrummond.org/post/14707795801

It's true - the laughter almost sounds canned!

Re: http://scottdrummond.org/post/14946638073

Traditionally cafes have been thought of as great Third Spaces, especially as there is quite a good opportunity for serendipitous encounters at good ones. But we now also have many co-working spaces springing up, and I would imagine that those are fantastic Third Spaces too.

In the book that coined the term Third Space, Ray Oldenburg cites the following factors as important for a Third Space: free or inexpensive; food and drink, while not essential, are important; highly accessible: proximate for many (walking distance); involve regulars – those who habitually congregate there; welcoming and comfortable; both new friends and old should be found there.

If you're interested in some of the broader thinking around this, it's well worth checking out Edward De Bono's work, especially 'Serious Creativity: Using the Power of Lateral Thinking to Create New Ideas'. In that he coins the term 'creative pause' to define the time away from a problem that helps you solve the problem. We often think of this as the 'a-ha moment in the shower' but it can actually happen anywhere.

Good luck finding your Third Space Angela :)

Re: http://scottdrummond.org/post/14946638073

Ooh! Arguably, in some of the areas Jules mentions it will be easier to differentiate yourself because they are less crowded/competitive.

Some thoughts on where value might still lie in the industry:

Innovative use of channels
I'd love someone to leave tips on social interaction on geolocation sites such as Foursquare. Imagine serving someone up awesome insights into human behaviour in locations that have relevance. This could obviously work really well with AR too.

Improving on what's already out there
Attending every single event going and writing the definitive record of what's hot and not in the industry events scene. I still think that's a space that isn't owned yet, although Kate Kendall's The Fetch (http://thefetch.org/) seems closest right now.

Product innovation
Build something that helps people in the industry better perform their role. I like the mobile apps IDEO Method Cards, Brief Buddy and Oblique Strategies (check out app store for these) - these all help me to perform aspects of my role better. A great app targeting the challenges of Account Management would be cool too.

I'm sure there's heaps more. What's big in New York Jules?

Re: http://tumbletogether.tumblr.com/post/13038614729

I think one of the crucial challenges for some businesses is just to accept the need for someone in that role.

That in order to ensure the business continues to work collaboratively, creatively and coherently, you need clear strategy, a commitment to change and at least one person whose sole mission it is to see those things take place.

Of course, it's actually everyone's responsibility to foster this sort of a workplace, but the Internal Community Manager is the person who doesn't sleep at night if things aren't right. You need someone who both sweats the small stuff and gets the big picture.

It can be a difficult mix to find in one individual, but it's imperative that businesses find the right person. Someone that understands that the grammar and vocabulary of this language of collaborative business needs to be learned, applied, practised, revised and reapplied. That's the territory of the Internal Community Manager.

Thanks as ever for your comments Steve :)
