Rather than bemoaning the result of not having nice things, I relish the ability to identify the 'this' that stands in the way of the simpler path.

And, I am starting to think that this pattern is connected to Enantiodromia, the process by which a hyperabundance or excess of anything becomes its own opposite. Having trust is clearly an asset, but with too much trust, you have nothing. And like DHH said, embrace your constraints.

Re: Martin Shkreli ordered to forfeit Wu-Tang Clan LP & other assets

Did they find his Magic cards?

Re: Grizzly Bear’s Ed Droste says the Music Industry is fucked

I think an interesting factor is that when alcohol and cigarettes are the only legal drugs, the musics that fit with them become profitable. Music cultures that fit with other drugs struggle because the sales of those don't go to the venue.

Re: Grizzly Bear’s Ed Droste says the Music Industry is fucked

Rock may not be quite as good as it was. But traditionally, bands that achieved this level of success have been able to tour for decades. Not for you? Fine, but the audience likes it. His point is that the tickets are selling, but the album sales replaced by streams are affecting this traditionally important ritual of concert-going.

Also SXSW is not for established bands, it's a series of showcases for undiscovered ones. And the difference between their live sound and what you are experiencing through Spotify is exactly what may be lost if Droste is correct.

Re: HALPERN: Whim ‘n’s spaces

A useful factor to consider is that people with access to segregated groups can analyze and consider their beliefs, whereas those in a fully mixed community may tend to simply hide and reinforce them. So, while this critique of mens’ spaces is coherent, stepping away from this policy may hinder growth in that way.

Re: The Wikipedia Competitor That's Harnessing Blockchain For Epistemological Supremacy

The platform uses IPFS for file and data storage. Tokens are stored in your Ethereum wallet, so you have authority to do whatever you want with them, since you hold the key used to sign transactions. Otherwise, they'd be in a situation where they were just talking to people for 15 minutes who they'd likely never see again, and the incentives might not be strong enough to allow them to focus (they're not going to change the value of Bitcoin just by doing a good job).

Re: This AirSwap ICO Investor Lost $80,000 on a Failed Transaction

Thank you for the technical explanation. I've been in contract-to-hire situations many times and I feel it can set the wrong expectations and incentives. If only there were a sensible compromise with some kind of gradual conferring of responsibility to the employer.

Re: Google and Facebook Have Failed Us

Google has always believed that algorithms are sufficient for curation. Apple's platforms are fully-baked before they get released and the result is that catastrophes are nearly impossible, people actually use the services regularly and long term, and their interfaces gradually become so intuitive that yet more platforms are built directly atop.

Re: Fatal Push [AER]

It seems that this card is rarer than other uncommons. The basic idea is that now is the best time to get into Magic as a beginner, because of card quality, metagame quality, art quality, the price-fixing from the Expeditions & Inventions, the demise of the core sets, improved Pro Tour coverage, and the fact that the new block scheme is in place. By making Kaladesh cards even more valuable, they can sell even more boxes right now at the beginning of the season, and try to tip Magic into a better critical mass.

Re: Myths abound about Beinecke

The adjacent tomb belongs to a different society - I think it's Book and Snake.

Re: And so it begins

This is a business technique from the CNet era.
