Yeah I had a large label get back to us recently and tell us that out of all the bands on their label only two are "currently doing overseas interviews". Um, OK? lol.

I love working with the smaller labels and the indie bands because they're happy to hear from you and don't try as hard to tell me how to do my job =P I think they're just happy I'm not trying to rob them blind with insane fee's to get their band into the magazine.

I know of a lot of labels/bands who are exactly like this.

But I also know of a lot of bands who are actually guys who just really fucking love to play and they work really damn hard to do it. We work with a lot of guys who are self managed and do their best to work around a crappy system.

So I'm glad this guy is talking about this, so that people over here can become more aware of it. There are definately a lot of frustrating politics going on, constantly.

But this article makes it seem like EVERYONE is like that and that's not true or responsible to say. This is based off an interview from one person working for one presumably larger company that's deeply entrenched. Its common, but its not every single band or musician out there. So hey, if you a like a band enjoy them without feeling suckered. (But maybe buy what you feel is important and not six versions of the same thing? Don't encourage them.)

I remember this. It was even really tough out in California for a while. I was barely starting high school and got all sorts of flack from other kids about how I was supposedly really violent and wanted to shoot people since I was constantly in knee high boots and fishnets.
