I have been a Chromebook / Android all in person for over 4 years now. I do not do video editing often, so I will use my sons or wife's Mac laptops for that. Having a machine 2 years ago dropped from a cafe's table, and getting a machine at a BestBuy 10 minutes later for $300, and having all my bookmarks, apps, and extensions auto restored is inspiring. I have an Acer. My next one will be one with a stylus. 2 factor auth and using the Android as a wifi in a pinch is painless

As a Boston fan, my loyalty is straight ahead.
The Big Popi story is really amazing. Even my Yankee friends nod astonishment at his season.
But the Cubs deserve to play well in the post season. Screw the goat and the cat.

cubs v cleve would be fun.
bos v LA would be fun. At least it would be a glimmer of the Celtics v Lakers 30 years ago.

bos vs SF would be personally fun since my sisters are in the Bay area and would be split tortured.

If LA v SF happens first, scalpers heaven is going to be enormous.
If LA v Cubs, LA fans are going to be shocked at the amount of Cubs fans in LA, and fly-ins are going to be at those games.

Cubs fans throughout the mid West deserve the joy Boston got in 2004.

If they win, it would be nice for the murders to stop and Bartman to get forgiveness and an armored car for the parade. (grin)

I have saved Gurley's piece as a pdf and in my Evernote account.
I want to make sure I can always find it.

It should be a must read for many entrepreneurs, because this is "seed/A/B to down round at C" period is not the same as the dot com bust with private companies and public companies vanishing.

Reading about LP biases relative to VC biases relative to Special Vehicles was really unique.

The only piece he missed was exhaustion.
Downrounds are mentally and physically exhausting even before the survival path starts.

For VC's being on a new 2016 -2017 glidepath of good/ great / and disastrous BOD's is going to be exhausting if they are on the 8 to 12 board common scenario.

Just saying 'well, thank god it's not the summer of 2000' is not enough.
At least JIm Beam and Xanax sales should be up . (grin)

The post and the comment thread here are fantastic.

I agree on the cultural, mobile, and linguistic matrices being added to the matrices of search, social networking, and user generated content.

That is 6 dimensions or orders of complexity beyond the mid 1990's web world.

There are two more likely in the short term.
location based services and Peer to Peer computing (bump -bitcoin-bittorrent and more...)
that is 8.

24 months and we will need to add
Internet of things (m 2 m) with NFC or RFID with mesh networks of IP enabled cars, vending machines

so that makes 9

so with 4 billion to 5 billion web enabled phones...(smart or feature w/ WAP).....

Great post. I do think a lot of PC OEM's are going to introduce slates/tablets into the mix.
Granted they are not phones. But enterprises are likely to use them, if Android 7" tablets are sub $150 or $100 with compelling multitouch applications and mobile cloud services via 3G , wifi, or eventually in some markets....WiMax. Steve

Thank you for sharing a very moving description of your family visit to Normandy.
I would love to eventually take my 2 sons, 10 and 14 there.

My mother, (soon to be turning 90) was a US Army nurse for that battle.
A four foot eleven, 23 year old Army captain.

She spent all of 1943 , treating the wounded of the US Army Air Corps B-17 bomber crews.
So she had a one year nightmare jump on June of 44.

She landed in Normandy , D plus 4, so June 10th.

She said that beach was still red, and the dead were still lining the beach at the high tide mark.
And dead from the battles inland , were brought to the sandbar as well.

She still can't talk about it , with out breaking down crying.

Her unit followed Patton's HQ from the liberation of Paris to Berlin. And then her unit was assigned to
liberated concentration camps in Germany, and encampments of German soldiers returning from the East.

And she stayed in Germany for a year, with the Army Corps assigned to Nuremberg for the trials.

About 5000++ Army nurses did the 2 to 3 year endurance of treating thousands of US, French, German, Dutch, Belgian wounded.

Since she enlisted right after Pearl Harbor, maybe 200 to 250 of her officer class became captains and majors and served the US wounded from UK based Air Corps bases all the way across Western Europe to Berlin.

She and those 5000 women endured torrents of blood, pain, and death for months on end.

Regarding desiring a Tom Hanks movie...
She told me her nurses team in London was better than the "League of her own" re-enactment.
She played 3rd base and batted first.
