A chicken leg and a thigh is not providing the full amount of nutrients your dog needs. Better to feed the whole chicken, eyes intestines, organs, etc. Rotate meat sources. Give her some beef or lamb with a whole raw egg. Make some bone broth and freeze into cubes for treats.

Re: Highlands Ranch's dog park threatened by too much dog poop

If you don't love your dog enough to clean up after it, don't have a dog. Judging by the DNA test, and how strongly the great Pyrenees traits shine through his giant mutt body, we're assuming someone's well-bred show dog had a fun bella notte out on the town. We named him Samwise Malcolm, after Samwise Gamgee of Lord of the Rings and Malcolm Reynolds of Firefly.

Re: Whole Earth Farms (Dry)

My dogs love this food!

I was making homemade food for years for my little Jack Russell mix, but then we adopted a Great Pyrenees mix who eats 4 times what she does.

While the cost is not an issue (lentils and eggs are cheap, we get meat scraps from various grocery stores, the international market has dirt cheap fish and vegetables), the time commitment is. I used to spend a full day making food to last 2 months, which now lasts about a week and a half.

I still make food for the dogs. Now though, instead of 100% homemade, they get half homemade and half Whole Earth grain-free kibble. They love it. I'm happy with it. I have an 86-pound mutt and a 19-pound mutt and we go through a 26-pound bag every month and a half or so.

Merrick and Whole Earth were bought by Purina. So what? They made a business decision allowing them to expand their market, distribution area, and production facilities.

This means they're getting ingredients from local farmers and growers in more places, which means more variety of ingredients, fresher ingredients, and money for local economies. More processing and distribution centers means they can create more product and get it to retailers faster, letting you buy fresher food and prices may start to fall. The hundreds of original staff get to keep their jobs, the brands get to keep their names. For now the recipe is the same. If the recipe changes at all, it will be because they had access to even more nutritionists who may advise they change the formula. This could happen because cows and ducks in one state may eat differently than cows and ducks in another state, and nutrient levels may be different so they have to balance them somewhere else.

Purina is a large corporation. They are large and successful because they're not idiots. They aren't going to purchase a high-quality, popular product and then change it so no one buys it. They want it because it is a high quality, successful product and they want to make it even more profitable.

Lagunitas, Sierra Nevada, Breckenridge, Founders, and Goose Island still make fantastic beers. Their recipes and quality haven't changed. Craft breweries "sell out" to MillerCoors and AB InBev because the benefits include getting on contracts to purchase hops and barley, more brewing facilities, state of the art brewing equipment, distribution rights in states and countries they previously wouldn't have had access to, an immense reduction in bottling costs, established marketing teams, etc. Merrick "selling out" to Purina is the same idea.

Sometimes you start a business and become so successful you find yourself trapped behind a desk dealing with legal stuff and paperwork instead of working on the thing you love. Why not hand over the legal and financial burden to someone who wants it, while you go back to making your dream successful?

It's not a horrible thing to have a wonderful product and then do what you can to make it even more successful.

Re: Wisconsin Senate Scheduled To Take Up More Than 80 Bills On Tuesday

Good to know overturning plastic bag bans was more of a priority than life-saving seizure treatment options.

Re: EOS Lip Balm -- Customers Say, 'We'll Give You Lip, In Court!!!'

That is contact dermatitis. I apologize for the confusion. I don't apologize for offending anyone who thinks it's totally fine to slap a service vest on a dog that hasn't gone through any service training just so they can bring their pet into the grocery store or on a plane (which happened recently, and the dog was so ill they had to complete an emergency landing). Service dogs go through a huge amount of training to perform a specific task that allows their handler to live safely and independently. They are not pets. They are considered medical equipment, which is why they are exempt from rules regarding pets. Having a service dog is not a game or a convenient way to bring your pet with you grocery shopping. People who fake having a disability so they can get around the rules are disgusting.

Re: Thanks to landlord, handicapped dog will lose the only home he's ever known

Faking a disability to avoid following the rules is always the appropriate solution. To have a service dog, you have to have a qualifying disability. Faking having a service dog is a Federal offense. Faking a disability so you can slap a service vest on your dog puts other people and real service dogs at risk, and makes you a giant asshole. Faking a disability. Gross. It's disgusting. A service dog is not a pet; it is crucial for the health, safety, and independence of its handler. Service dogs are highly trained to perform a specific task, such as alerting to a sudden drop in blood sugar or an impending seizure. Many people with service dogs would, literally, need around the clock supervision if they did not have a highly trained dog whose only mission in life is alerting their handler to a dangerous situation. Having a service dog is a necessity, not a convenient way for you to skirt around rules you don't like.

Something that could have been done instead was a potential owner checking with the landlord or reviewing the lease before making a commitment to care for a special needs animal, and then the person/agency placing the animal also following up to make sure the animal was going to an appropriate home prior to the animal leaving his/her care. This entire situation could have been avoided.

Re: Waukesha man accused of selling Play-Doh, saying it was Ecstasy

Good to see tax dollars keeping the public safe from a dangerous water/flour/salt combo.

Re: Here's the thing... : Related: Milwaukee has a grilled cheese sandwich restaurant.

I effin' love that place!

Re: http://bananza.tumblr.com/post/14972162532

Yessss! Honest. :) Your personality doesn't change; you are who you are. You may perceive or react to a situation or day in a different way, and maybe it's different than the way you've reacted before to a similar or the same situation, but that's not your personality changing. It's not you changing who you are. It's just different variables being thrown at that personality and you reacting. You love "Annie" and you're content with "Anne" and you'd probably even be ok if I started calling you "Bananzaranza". Your name is not as important as you. People see you, not your name, and, trust me, they love you. Or, I do, anyway. And I'm pretty much the most important one sooo... :) ((hugsssss))

Re: http://bananza.tumblr.com/post/2817467764

#GoAnnieGo!!! :-D You know I'm here to punch some love in your face if you need me to. :)

Re: http://sawaboof.tumblr.com/post/2708408517

Yes.
