Maybe Womp acts like a normal real world virus in its home dimension, but is unable to infect anything that lives in our dimension, so it just resorts to eating people instead?

Just the fact I don't have to play through essentially the same game all over again just to access the new content is worth it, imo. Couldn't ever get into the 3rd versions/Ultra games for that reason.

do the skilecats have any kind of manufacturer info on them? something you can search on ebay or something, since they're pretty clearly by the same manufacturer.

The drippins kinda look like that scrapped Ditto evolution to me... oh Animon, you may have been rejected from the Pokemon canon but at least you found work as a somewhat obscure maybe-Digimon.

Fwiw, I've heard Yokai Watch 2 did REALLY well in Europe, a lot more so than it did in the States, so it's possible a localized YW3 could at least be released there. And the Busters/Blasters spinoff just came out in the West, so they haven't completely given up on the franchise over here yet...

I do like the vaguely Fleischer-esque rubber-hose look the beta version has, right down to the tail hand looking like a typical nubby four fingered white cartoon glove. Both versions are kinda charming in their own way really, though Aipom does look more expressive and typically Pokemon-y.

...or I realized you could tweak the colors and put some red/orange/pink cheeks on it and it'd easily pass for the obligatory small electric mammal from every region!

(I know it’ll probably never happen but I like speculating how the unused designs might be incorporated into the modern Pokemon canon if they were ever reintroduced...)

could make for a cute early-game normal type, though! I love the current sneasel and am glad they changed this design but I wouldn't mind a more standard weaselly weasel as a seperate pokemon.

Proto Suicine is so SO cute. Alola ninetales has kind of a similar aesthetic, I guess, but it doesn’t have the fluffy hair and sweet shy innocent expression ;_;

I'm glad the first thing EVERYONE mentioned is the fire and brimstone Southern preacher voice they gave the possessed owl in the English dub, which manages to be both hilarious and a little unnerving at the same time.

With a few tweaks this could easily work as an alternate regional form for Dragonite or even an alternate Dragonair evolution. I think it’d fix a lot of the issues people have with vanilla Dragonite, especially the clashing color palette compared to its pre-evos.

The only reason I can think of is *maybe* they thought a short stumpy little creature wearring a wolf pelt would have been a little too similar to Gabumon, especially since I think the original digimon toys came out around the same time this demo was exhibited.

I think it’s been long enough now that there’s no reason they can’t use a similar concept for a gen 8 pokemon though...

god I LOVE this whole line, they might be some of my favorite digimon in the whole franchise. especially Cherubimon; freaky surreal angels are probably my favorite monster archetype and a bizarrely proportioned bunny-dog-bird-man with huge wing-hands and a creepy vacant baby face is SUCH an unnerving thing for an angel to be.

Was kinda funny how the English dub of Frontier gave both Cherubimon forms the same ridiculously deep death metal growl voice, which sounded pretty bizarre coming out of the Virtue form.

God this one makes me sad :( I've wanted an alternate Weepinbell evo ever since Bellossom came out, I was so disappointed when it turned out Carnivine wasn't one, and now it turns out we came THIS CLOSE to getting one at the same time as Bellossom all along!

Weirdly enough when a herd of these guys made a brief appearance in Tamers they weren’t as huge as their artwork usually makes them look, but actually smaller than most Child level digimon in the anime! About cat sized!

the shell being bolted together along with it being described as “nonconformist” makes me think that this guy is just a regular ol dragon who built its own crudely made lobster suit just because it wanted to feel different and that’s adorable

I dunno about the rest of its line but this guys ultimate form definitely should be Gundramon aka the most hilarious digimon design ever. it’s literally just a dinosaur whose whole body is made up of an obscene number of guns. all it needs is a big American flag flying from its back or something to be truly perfect.

I was wondering why you hadn’t mentioned that Raremon’s sprite is just a straight up clone of Hedorah on its own page, but everything makes sense now!

Funnily enough a sub plot in the first DS Digimon game actually DOES revolve around a kind, caring tamer raising a mean, lonely little Pagumon and helping it learn to open up and make friends, though its child form is a Black Agumon rather than any of these guys.

in all seriousness though I just realized that "wild stringy hair + blank eyed and/or crazed expression" is an extremely appealing creature design aesthetic to me for some reason and fairly prevalent in my own monster design doodles. a lot of the later Digimon are kinda "eh" for me but MadLeomon is genuinely a REALLY REALLY cool design.
