I just got the first three books as a birthday gift. Normally I'm anal about reading the books before I watch something, but in this case I happened to watch the show first. The books ended up being a bit of a disappointment. Somehow the character development comes across with much more depth in the show, ironically as at first I thought it was nothing but a healthy dose of vampire porn...

I want some. This show is one of those rare instances when the screenwriting far outstrips the books. The character development is excellent and the tongue in cheek-ery is fucking fantastic.
