I think there was very much a liberal and start-up feel as long as we were there.
I was just referring to the fact that new software companies seemed to setup the rules first and then handle the people (which is what we didn't do).

Given TH_NK's stellar growth and trajectory right now, I will definitely take on board your points about rules and processes. Cheers.

Re: Interview with Sarat Pediredla – Co-founder and Partner at Hedgehog lab

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your carefully constructed criticism. Which part did you find arrogant exactly? The bit where I say I owe a lot to my father? Or the bit where I say we had no clue what we were going to do? Or the bit where I say we have a LONG way to become big or important?

I didn't claim anywhere in there that a specific point differentiates us. Happy to be corrected

Re: On the BlackBerry PlayBook

Agree John. And I think the BB Tablet OS is far more suited to tablets than Android is. Until there are credible Chrome OS tablets, I would say the PlayBook is really the only alternative to the iPad (when it releases!)

Re: Announcing solomon - Small Business CRM & web-based contact manager

3rd Party integration is definitely high on our list. A lot of people
use Google based services so that is our first point of attack.

I appreciate your point about licensing but fixx was designed to be a
team-oriented app, which is why we gave it away for freelancers.

solomon, on the other hand, is aimed at individuals and smaller teams,
which means it makes commercial sense for us to limit by contacts. We
are considering upping the free contact limit based on feedback.

Nevertheless, solomon is very affordable at just $99 per user, which
makes it very competitive given we provide FREE support and
maintenance :)

Re: Announcing solomon - Small Business CRM & web-based contact manager

This is definitely planned as part of the E-mail Integration functionality. Basically, the way we see it working right now (although there is a design sprint planned for it, so things might change), is that each user can hook solomon up with their e-mail account (via POP3/IMAP + SMTP) and solomon will automatically parse and merge e-mails received from a recognised contact. Also, you can just reply to e-mails from within solomon if you want to keep track of the conversation.

We don't intend on replacing the e-mail client directly but basic reply functionality will allow you to get most things done through solomon.

Re: iPad as a business device

I think it is inevitable that Microsoft, HP, and other manufacturers will follow in the footsteps of Apple. How many iPhone-like devices have you seen explode on the market after it set the standard?

This is another reason why I think people under-estimate the iPad. In 2 years, every new tablet made will replicate the iPad with supposedly superior "features" like USB etc.

Re: Man the lifeboats, the idiots are winning. We are working hard on the hosted version, which to start with might just be a high-priced option for enterprise customers. We will slowly work towards a more affordable hosted solution for smaller customers.

Re: Please help me choose a business bank

No problem Justin. I have no idea about Lloyds TSB. They seem a safe bet. I agree that keeping your personal and business dealings separate.

Re: Please help me choose a business bank

We tried a few until we stuck to Barclays. I am not entirely satisfied with them yet but they seemed so much better (WAY BETTER) than Natwest/RBS.

I wouldn't go for HBOS either as I have had terrible pre-sales advice from them and their support is non-existant.

Barclays has a great Free Automated Transaction Tariff that is great if you do a lot of transactions online and/or pay electronically etc.

They are pretty good with small business, with a Business Manager you can actually speak to (I still dont know who it was at Natwest).

The only gotcha with Barclays are high borrowing rates (if you need it), and some business managers persistent on selling you their "value add-ons".
