We have that same stroller!! I've pushed it into the ground though. I had to get another one, this time I got the Kate Spade Maclaren.

Not really sure! What's funny to me is when women give up sushi. All sushi in the US is flash frozen and therefore safe in moderation during pregnancy. I see one of the top doctors in SF and she insists sushi is not a problem provided you aren't going to the shadiest restaurant in the city. Still, so many women "give it up" during pregnancy.

I assume that shellfish is okay in moderation too. Problem is, a lot of American women don't do things in moderation. And lots of doctors just tell women no to everything because it's easier for them.

We have the Fisher Price Nature Sounds swing. I think they change the theme every year or so, but the swing is basically the same. A total lifesaver when you want to make dinner or actually get something done for a few minutes.

You crack me up!! My daughter slept in a crib in our room for 1 year before we moved her to her own bedroom. And just wait, you're going to get even more stuff. The toys get overwhelming (even when you don't actually have that many)!!

Not true that "everyone" knows how to set up a buffet table. I didn't. Also, I recently went to a potluck dinner and thoughtlessly threw a beautiful pasta salad at the end of the buffet table and wondered why no one ate it! The only thing my husband and I could figure is that we shouldn't have placed it at the very end of the table! Doh!

BTW, we're not total idiots either. I went to a top ten college and he has a Phd. ;)

I've been on the baby led schedule, which has turned into the toddler led schedule. Needless to say, I'll be doing things differently with my second baby!

Oh goodness!! I completely disagree. I live in San Francisco now with a 2.5 year old and another on the way. I think the city is completely un-family friendly. Hills everywhere make it impossible to push the stroller for long walks. Most desirable restaurants/venues are very unwelcoming to families. Many residents choose to live in San Francisco specifically because they do not want children/dislike them. The city is full of adults obsessed with themselves. Public schools in the city are downright AWFUL making the private school expense a necessity. I could go on all day.

I know I'm a hater, but I've had horrible experiences trying to happily raise a baby in the city. The only upside is the range of cultural experiences. Then again, how many of those can you really enjoy with a very young child? The Bay Area in general is amazing for children though!

Needless to say, we're moving to the burbs sometime in the next year. I've lived in SF since 2003.

Mary, just wanted to let you know that this blog and your intentions are getting pretty hard to follow. I thought you were happy in LA and staying there. You're already sharing so much, but it's almost impossible to fill in the gaps in your story. Make sense? Anyway, best of luck w/the move!

The part that got my husband was that the Mom in the story has 100 pair of Louboutins, etc.

I have this book! You know what's funny? I called my daughter Birdie since a few weeks after she was born. Then I saw this book a few months ago, and it was a perfect match for my little fashionista toddler. Funny thing is, she won't put this book down. My husband hates it, and thinks it's too materialistic. Anyway, the illustrations are fab, aren't they?!

I wish you the best of luck! Are you taking a birthing class as well? I know a lot of people find this helpful, including me. I took one that didn't focus on any one type of birth, but explained all kinds. It was amazing. Also, I know a lot of people who intend to have natural births and realize that they can't at the last minute (too painful, complications, etc). It's best to be prepared for anything. Even a c-section (eeeeek!!). That was by far my worst nightmare.

More importantly, if you give birth in a big hospital, you ultimately don't get to CHOOSE how you will give birth. You may think you do, especially if you have a doula, but you don't...especially if there are even the slightest of complications. I'd suggest a home birth or natural birthing center. Again, this is just based on my (and my friends') experiences at CPMC San Francisco-- one of the best hospitals in a very very progressive city.

All I can say it that it's hard to anticipate the pain if you have never experienced it. It really really really really HURTS. I never committed to a natural birth, because I didn't know how I was going to feel while in labor. Turns out, it was extremely painful! I think this is especially true of first time vaginal births. Anyway, I got the pain medication as soon as I arrived at the hospital. I had to get a shot in my ass to even make it upstairs to get in bed and get the epidural. And this was after doing the whole hot bath during contractions for pain management. I arrived at the hospital looking like a drowned rat (and in extreme pain)!

Anyway, this is just my experience. Sorry if it is TMI.

Sure, but this is a look that is maintained not ONLY through eating well and exercising, but ALSO copious amounts of plastic surgery. That's all I was trying to say. :)

Oh, and you can't rely on a man for anything, really...
