No human being, should be subjected to a public shaming list as did your father. I would hope that in the future, you would reach out and speak for others that are on the registry as well. Because, you're right, all of the people on that list have loved ones and children who are affected by these laws as well, sometimes even putting the families, children or neighbors in harms way. The very laws that were written to protect children are actually subjecting more children to danger than they are protecting. It is truly a shame that society has gotten to the point of no forgiveness. My heart and prayers go out to you and your family.

Re: http://preview.kccommunitynews.com/smithville-herald-news/30475254/detail.html

Missouri does NOT need to worry about registrants moving in to the state. As an affiliate of Indiana CURE, we work with registrants that simply can not afford to move from one place to another, especially to another state. Most registrants are finding it too hard to find employment to pay bills, let alone come up with the income to move to other areas.
Mr. McGrail needs not worry about this issue.

Re: The ‘other side’ of sexual charges

I can't agree more with this article, with the exception that I do believe that prosecutors just try to "get convictions". Sexual offenses are too easy to convict someone with, especially with the media attention about "predators" and "child molesters."
It has been proposed to have bills where it is illegal for men to "adjust" themselves in public or to have a plumber bend over and show his anal clef. These bills if passed in to laws would put people on the registry as well.
Too many teens are incarcerated at this time for crimes not considered Romeo and Juliet crimes. Why? Because prosecutors know that Romeo and Juliet offenses can not hold up in court, so they files charges of sexual aggravated assault or criminal deviate conduct. The jury has no clue that this young adult will serve a life time on the registry.
It is also a crime for people to urinate in public. Remember when dad would pull over on the side of the road, when we were kids, and relieve himself? Now he would be on the registry as a sex offender! We need reform of the laws! NOW!
www.reformsexoffenderlaws.com

Re: Cartoon for Sept. 2 - Kirkland Reporter

For instance Mr. Lundsford!

Re: Cartoon for Sept. 2 - Kirkland Reporter

Thank you Jorene! I just wish more people would understand this Pandemic! But it won't be until it happens to them that they will see the "truth!"

Re: Sex offender system doesn't work - Kirkland Reporter

Funny.... my son was 17 years old when his girlfriend gave him nude pictures of herself. He is now serving 8 years in DOC and has to register for life as a Sex offender! I can't tolerate the lies that the media states about ALL sex offenders. As if they are all clumped together as pedophiles who "kill a lot of thier victims." Shame on the media for causing such outrage and fear among citizens! Everyone open your eyes! This could happen to your kids, nephews, grandkids or neighbors! Is that what you want for the ones you love? Think about it the next time you read this kind of bad press! And think about it when you look on the sex offender registry and have a false sense of security! The real pedophiles are hiding among our youth on the registry! No one can tell who is dangerous or not! Scarey isn't it?

Re: Cartoon for Sept. 2 - Kirkland Reporter

I believe if Mr. Johnson was fighting for his teenage son's life, while his son was incarcerated for possessing a nude picture of girlfriend, he wouldn't have thought to publish this picture. The problem with society is this, it's due to ignorance and the lack of understanding that ridiculous laws are made to prosecute innocent victims that fall among them. I hope that the media becomes more considerate to others before they would publish something like this in the future. Too many of our youth are being convicted to prison for sexting, possession of pornography or consensual sex. It's my opinion that it is because of the hysteria of sex offenders created by lawmakers and the media.
