This article is so flawed. "Light Poles" were actually high-tension power poles carrying some of the largest forms of electricity we have in our society. The poles served 16,000 people in the area and are owned and operated by Seattle City Light, an agency wholly separate from the City of Tukwila and the City of Seattle. People opining here about how much taxes the City is going to take are pointing in the wrong direction. Look at your tax bill, totally, not just the amount due. Find out where your taxes go, and seek out the Waste, Fraud and Abuse. THEN think before you speak, because there are many more systems like this, that when they fail, will kill us all, slowly.

entitled? to a bike, maybe? if the lane is paid for by everyone, then everyone is entitled to use it. I wish for no bike lanes, and motorists that understand the State law says bicycles are vehicles and have a right to the road (save the freeway). Put the phone down, stop drinking two hours before driving and let your mother take you when you need pills. Or sit in prison after you mangle a human who is simply trying to get to work in an era when gasoline, food, rent and all else does not follow the laws of supply and demand.

There is already an outdoor velodrome in Durban. It was recently upgraded with an underpass and covered stands, lights and a new surface. Suck it up and race on it already!

My boat broke down a while back and then my motorhome let go after loaning it to some inlaws. I did just buy a new weedwacker and got my mower fixed, though. Hopefully someone will fix the failed storm drainage system that floods the ditch in front of my house, so I don't have to pump my foundation out so much. I guess if you can't see the problem, there isn't one, right Jimmy?

Where's the scorch marks from the fire that these heroic fire fighters were blasting this pristine area with fire retardant foam? I know the gasoline didn't kill these fish, it floats. This foam they are using fills the stream with chemicals and draws the oxygen out of the water creating a massive dead zone that kills these fish as it passes. The fire professionals, worldwide, need to manage these hazards better if we are to protect the environment. If there is no ignition source then there is limited fire danger. Place a screen dam (block the top few inches of water and all of the fuel) in the stream and pump off the fuel from downstream. Stop the indiscriminate use of fire retardants in our environment. The title of this article should be "Fire Foam kills fish unnecessarily."

HowISeeIt disagrees with me that "Federal Way's leadership (meaning its
directors) to be pretty top notch. Where they fall short is because they are
limited by a council that can't make up their minds and wastes their time
and work. A council that Jim Ferrell has been honored to be a part of for
the last 6 years" - What this really says is that Jim Ferrell is not able to
make up his mind and direct the managers of the City. This means the City
needs a mayor to direct the managers and provide a balance and check against
a squabbling lame council.

With just a little checking on the Internet I have found that Neal Beets, Federal Way's last City Manager announced his two weeks notice of quitting Roseville after the Maple Grove city prosecutor determined that he broke several city ordinances concerning fines given to businesses that were tagged for selling alcohol to minors. Mr. Beets was not criminally prosecuted because they could not prove that he received a bribe for substantially reducing penalties to three businesses; And in Mesa AZ, many citizens were very angry at the style and content of his work. Federal Way found this City Manager with his storied past, through a professional search firm. What are they going to get next? An Ex-Con?

There is already a law against distracted driving, which falls in the same category as DUI, vehicular assault. But it is not a Class C felony with Mandatory Jail times for injury and death thresholds.

Only in the sentencing guidelines. Judges can and do defer these sentences, all the time. Take Capt George Moorehead of the Woodville fire dept, who killed three father's on their way home from work, by running through a stop sign with over 3 times the legal limit BAC. He was given 300 hours of community service by the sentencing judge. The guidelines said up to 5 years maximum prison term. What needs to happen is the sentences should have mandatory minimum jail times for crimes that injure and kill people, somehow DUI has skipped under this threshold since it emerged from prohibition as the government's recreational drug of choice for the people.

Where has the Accountability been then Jim? Who's accountable for all the lost funds to a City Manager that wasn't fired? Who's accountable for all the lost tax dollars on the City Center Project? Who's Accountable for paving streets, streets that the council lives on years ahead of schedule? Who's accountable for selecting consultants without a RFQ process? Now you want to be mayor of the 7th largest City in the State and do what, bring accountability? Seems to me you all need to be fired, along with the overpaid and underperforming managers of all the departments in Federal Way, and the Citizens need to start over, from the ground up, taking hints from longer serving jurisdictions.

It is all being done, for you and everyone else. What you need to be complaining about is the Pay to Play policy in the Public Works department.

Funding was also made possible by the lack of tax collection on the current MSC property. Specifically, for all you tax free folks, the Surface Water fees that are required by any of the properties, tax exempt or not, within the City of Federal Way. Dini Duclos has been on the City Council for ages and knew of this shortfall for many years without ever stepping up and paying MSC's fair share. So while all you business owners and property owners in Federal Way have been financing the Surface Water improvements that benefit everyone, including MSC, they have been getting raises and bigger paychecks. Way to go Dini, deny the money to the City, then take the money in another check.

As for the Drunks on this page, injuring people is a misdemeanor traffic infraction and will not be considered important enough to be tracked by the NHTSA. So we will never really know the true cost of DUI. The State and The Fed make billions of dollars on the sale and value added taxation of alcohol and in turn all of our communities benefit from these tax dollars. The burden of these earnings are placed on the shoulders of those injured when their health care won't cover them or they lose their jobs in recovery. We need to make DUI a class c felony with mandatory penalties and make the injured's recovery a protected class so that their earnings are protected and they don't suffer for the billions the State uses to build extravagantly.
