Elizabeth is right on. There is something about blogging that offers a level of productivity through social networking and sharing of information. Yet, there is a fine line between your thoughts on line about politics, to business advice, to recipes, to reviewing of the arts, to steam of conscious which is engaging vs. all private information hanging out there in the wind. If people relish following you day to day, so be it, but that doesn't mean that they need to know every aspect of your life.

Getting carried away with the people who comment and commenting yourself is also a fine line. Getting caught up in the open world at large can take you away from the reality of your day to day. You can find yourself pushing the envelope in public with information that is best kept to yourself. It is easy to do on a computer. You are not staring at the 10,000 eye balls who are listening/reading to what you have just said/written.

Wise advice of elders of the past, think before you speak.

Different conversations are taking place in cafes around the world. We live in a flatter world than we did 20 or 30 years ago. People are gravitating to areas that might appeal more to their sensibility because they can. Some are in Buenos Aires while others are in Paris. There is no doubt that the high cost of urban living has affected artists in every category. These artists might be gravitating towards smaller cities that are not necessarily on everyone's radar but you can read their thoughts on line.
There is nothing quite like people ( that would probably me included in the middle age part) in their middle age life espousing what was. Look at history. The writer from the WSJ, is he truly in touch with what is actually going on today in cafes or will he have to wait another 10 years to find out what was happened. Did everyone know they were history in the making at Cafe Flore in the late 60's?
Perhaps a cafe in Seattle right now has 30 people sitting around, drinking coffee with their laptops. Chatting away about politics, art, books and the world at large. Or perhaps there is a group who has found each other through a social network on life having the same discussions. We will find out years from now that 5 of those people ( who spoke frequently and came together because of location ) are the artists, politicians and book writers of 2010.

Considering how "anti" our country has seemed to be over the years. think nancy reagan "just say no". i find the whole concept of pot being legal with tax benefits for the state while not causing any higher crime problems but perhaps less just makes me laugh out loud.

What are the prudes trying to stop exactly? I have never understood and
probably never will people who are anti-drugs. Drugs are pretty simple.
Supply vs demand. If the USA supplies, legally with taxation, controlled
substances, the crime would be off the streets and perhaps more people could
actually be saved.

it is all about ego. entrepreneurs don't always have the skill sets, no matter what age, to run and nurture a company. their idea can be nurtured and they should be at the helm to create the soul and execute on their vision but that doesn't mean they should be the ceo. ceo's have a totally different set of skill sets. some entrepreneurs can make the transition while others can not. it doesn't not lessen their value.

the hardest part is getting the entrepreneur to realize that their skill set (each is different ) is best suited in a role that will be the biggest value add for the company. then hopefully finding a ceo that respects and looks to the entrepreneur to grow the company together. otherwise, ego rears its ugly head and the initial idea ( although all ideas go through many changes as companies grow ) never becomes as successful as it could have been.

as much as vc's are about helping nurture young companies and help individuals realize their dreams, they are also about hand holding, ego boosting and baby sitting (no matter the age )while trying to get to the other side as smoothly as possible.

not as easy as it looks. great ideas only become great companies with the right people in the right roles.
