Have you seen any numbers on that? Personally, I seem to be using it more and more, but no idea if it's actually making a dent in user behavior.

Re: Jeff Bezos: Yes, it’s Apollo 11! They've got a pretty rich profile for 1B people and what has got to be one of the largest retargeting cookie pools. How many product pages have the like button on them?

Re: Facebook’s business model

Chris, aren't you discounting the vast amount of data the FB has for each user? How many advertisers would that kind of targeting appeal to? We felt like we priced pretty aggressively ($290/sqft, which is what we paid in '05) but we haven't had too many people come by. Additionally, very few of the comparables I've been tracking have moved and there hasn't been too many new unti come on the market.

It'll be interesting to see the Sept numbers.

----
I'll crosspost to CHS as well.

Re: Open Houses This Weekend

Actually, I live just up the street from 1508 10th, and there usually is quite a bit of parking around there. You get the sense that SJ would've preferred to keep ads off of his device altogether but he clearly saw where the market was going. I'd say his comments during the presentation we're directly targeted at google. "Search is not happening on phones" was one quote, and then there was to whole bit about the lack of emotional engagement & story telling in general when it comes to web advertising.

iAd is tailored to the type of advertising Apple itself does. Companies with large marketing budgets and the big ad agencies will love it.

But, one advantage that Google's platform has over iAds is the shear number of advertisers. It's so easy for any one to create an AdWords campaign. Two lines of text and a URL — any small business can do it. iAds simply won't be accessible to as large of any audience. Though I can imagine a cottage industry of HTML5 developer focusing on iAds will emerge.

From a developers point of view it really seems like a no brainer when it comes to choosing a platform. Unless you're heavily invested in other platforms (android) there doesn't seem much reason to go else where. And even then you may see people start with iAds and "port" their assets to other platforms

Re: The Seattle Startup Index for February/2010 with a Freebie

re: "Whatever hasoffers.com is doing". I just feels odd to 'rent' fonts as you say. The people seem to like TypeKit though, I guess the market will decide. For me, a bigger issue would be for designers doing client work. It's just so much easier to pass through a one time cost to a client compared to a recurring cost.

Re: If there's a Twitter app bubble forming, when will it pop?

I think it'll be tough to build a large business on top of twitter.

There's an outside chance something like oneriot takes off but it seems more likely that google, facebook or twitter itself takes the wins there.

I don't see any of the clients (tweetdeck, brizzly) ever gaining a big audience, though pro-tools like Cotweet have a chance.

That said, there's plenty of interesting projects being built on top of twitter these days. This pattern takes up much less room and works well in cases where the user is just as likely to want only one or two items.

http://www.flickr.com/photo...

Re: There’s the More button now, but how do you get back?

I've been working on this a bit recently too.

The ajax style 'more' is interesting in twitter's case because often there is no 'back' or at least it's changed quite a bit since the user was there.

search.twitter.com is a good example of this. They still use the < newer | older > pagination there. On a popular query the 'first' page often changes while you're viewing the second. Going 'back' can potentially skip over whole 'pages' of tweets.

One option would be to populate the browser's history as you extend the page's content with 'more'. 'Back' wouldn't change the the content at all, it'd just take back to the last piece of content before you clicked 'more'.
