The way log_buddy works it needs a source file to function.

- Rob

Re: visudo: sudoers file busy, try again later

Warning: the chmod command you list may be too permissive for some systems, and will completely lock you out of your sudoers file! This happened to me on a centos 5 install, where sudoers should be 0440 - the chmod you listed made it 0540, which broke it.

Re: What’s Under Your Monitor?

I think you meant abstractions like this or this. Bang methods have always meant that in Ruby, see Kernel#exit! for instance. Matz has even commented on the fact that the bang means ‘danger’, and not necessarily modifies its receiver (though thats often the case).

See also David A Black’s post on this.

Re: Basic Readability

Eric: I was saying any ruby programmer should know about the concepts used in to_proc. Ideally folks on your team would be read blogs or the ActiveSupport docs to get an initial understanding, and then look at the source code a bit later to gain a deeper knowledge.

And things like open classes and what “send” does it definitely foundational Ruby.

Re: Sometimes Too Much Is Too Much

This may be the greatest thing ever.

Re: Why don’t you use a memetracker?

I read memorandum, among others, but I think it would really be more valuable if I could tell it what my favorite topics are and what I don't care about. Then filter the most popular discussions based on that, so I get even less noise to deal with.

re: digg - its fun for wasting time, but I don't go there for any sort serious discussion. Slashdot at +4 is much better for quality comments.

Re: The closed blogosphere…

I blog about java, ruby on rails, TDD, agile in general, ajax, and pretty much anything nerdy.
