mediocre or not, the power they hold is in the (mostly) real-life address book of person-to-person connections vs an unwieldy address book of sometimes unidentifiable and potentially expired emails addresses. theyre not going to replace email (in the short term) but email is now an inbox for marketing junk, notification alerts, and messages from grandma. and this has nothing to do with livejournal and/or status updates.

i like the simplicity of twitpic. new features like this are welcome as long as it doesnt affect page load speed. yfrog and tweetphoto load up too many auxiliary items that slow down page load. all a user wants to see is the image!
