Good point. This situation is still in its infancy; we realize that understanding it requires crawling before walking, and constant changes. The concerns of gay babies simply cannot be satisfied by some canned formula. But the development will continue, and we're confident that everyone can be pacified.

That would be a logical conclusion if the only way to have smart kids was for two smart people to make the beast with two backs. But IQ, or are current understanding of what that encompasses, is polygenetic. Which means that it pops up where you wouldn't expect. The result is an overall trend that's generally agnostic of any particular parent's IQ.

Well, that's what I tell myself at night so that I can stop crying about universal healthcare.

Researchers have called the advanced spacecraft the “crown jewel” of NASA’s heliophysics fleet. SDO will beam back IMAX-quality images of solar explosions and peer beneath the stellar surface to see the sun’s magnetic dynamo in action.

SDO is designed to amaze—and it got off to a good start.

“The observatory did something amazing before it even left the atmosphere,” says SDO project scientist Dean Pesnell of the Goddard Space Flight Center.

Moments after launch, SDO’s Atlas V rocket flew past a sundog hanging suspended in the blue Florida sky and, with a rippling flurry of shock waves, destroyed it.

I wholly agree with your condemnation of the "me too" practice of milking reformulations (and even calling them that is a stretch, usually.) for patent extensions. However, wouldn't excluding new drugs simply for having comparatively less efficacy, or harsher side effects, hurt those for whom the "good" drugs simply don't work? And have no choice but to take the harsher medications?

This seems to be the most common with severe mental illnesses, where medically resistant persons choose to endure side effects and blood tests, because the only medication that keeps them out of a psych ward, due to whatever unique biochemistry they possess, is the harshest one on the shelf.

Wouldn't it be more prudent, then, to reform patent extension, on/off label usage rules, and indication guidelines? Do you feel that direct-to-patient drug marketing adds to this? (tv commercials, rebate cards, etc.)
